Toshiba announced today their newest HD DVD player, the HD-A20, was now available at U.S. retailers. The HD-A20 is priced at around $500 and joins Toshiba’s second generation of HD DVD players.
The Toshiba HD-A20 has 1080p output capability and is designed to play HD DVD titles, which is the next generaton DVD disc format backed by Toshiba and others. The HD-A20 is considered the middle rung in the second generation of Toshiba’s HD DVD players and is backwards compatible with existing DVDs and CDs so consumers aren’t limited to just the handful of HD DVDs currently on the market.
Other features on the new Toshiba HD-A20 include an HDMI interface, video upconversion to near HD picture quality, an Ethernet port so users can enjoy extra features when a network-enabled HD DVD disc is played and support for various surround sound configurations such as Dolby Digital Plus and DTS HD.
