Hot on the heels of Sony’s OLED TV announcement on Monday, Toshiba may be attempting to one-up its rival with an even bigger OLED set of its own. Although no official press release has yet been made in Japan or the United States, a company spokesperson reports that the TVs are on their way.
Yuko Sugahara, a Toshiba representative, told PC World that the first Toshiba OLED sets are in the works and should be reaching the market by 2009. Such a late release date would put them over a year behind Sony, which has OLED sets ready to hit Japanese store shelves in December. However, according to techshout.com, Toshiba’s TV will span 30 inches, compared to Sony’s relatively small 11-inch set.
Toshiba president and CEO Atsutoshi Nishida speculated about the release of such a set back in April, but no firm plans were announced at the time. Prior to that, the company was projecting a 2015 to 2016 release for its OLED TVs.
