Digital Foci Bringing Photo Frames to CES

Digital Foci Bringing Photo Frames to CES

Some folks love the idea of putting their digital snapshots (or other images on display throughout their home, but are understandably reluctant to (say) work an aging laptop into their living room decor. So a burgeoning market in digital photo frames has developed, enabling users to display their digital images on LCD displays that more closely resemble traditional photograph frames. Digital Foci will be bringing three new digital photo frames to the CES show in January under the "Image Moments" line, aiming to please multiple segments of the developing market.

Eac of the Image Moments displays will feature stereo speakers (along with audio output for external speakers, if desired), 200 MB of internal memory for storing images and media, plus support for CompactFlash, MMC, SD/HC, Memory Stick, Memory Stock PRO, MS PRO Duo, and xD cards. (And adapter will enable users to pop in miniSD and RS-MMC cards). The displays can copy images from media cards to internal memory without using a computer, and feature USB 2.0 connectivity for adding images from computers and other devices. The Image Moments displays will also offer a number of playback modes (including silde shows and on-device playlist management), automatic photo orientation based on EXIF data, and an automatic on-off timer. The displays will support JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, and RAW images, along with common audio (MP3, AAC, WMA, Ogg, and WAV) and video (Motion JPEG, MPEG-4) formats.

The Image Moments 15 will offer a 15-inch 1,024 by 768 pixel display with a 700:1 contrast ratio, VESA 100 brackets for positioning on a wall or other mount, video and audio output for pumping media to other devices, a hinged memory card door for surreptitiously adding media, and an interchangeable frame and mat design. The Image Moments 8 and 6 will offer screens with LED backlighting and respective resolutions of 800 by 600 pixels and 640 by 480 pixels: that makes the effective density of the Image Moments 6 a very smooth 140 ppi. The Image Moments 8 also features interchangable frames and mats, but the Image Moments 6 is stuck with a chrome facade.

The displays should be available in March 2008 at suggested prices of $399 for the Image Moments 15, and $199 and $149 for the Image Moments 8 and 6, respectively.

Top Tech of CES 2021 Awards Feature

A year like none other deserved a gadget show like none other, and CES 2021 delivered. The first all-digital show in the 55-year history of CES arrived as a necessary measure to keep attendees safe amid COVID, leaving the entire industry to experience via webcam what once occupied a convention center the size of a small city. It was enough to make us pine for the days when all we had to complain about were crusty press lunches and getting smacked with selfie sticks.

But it wasn’t all bad! While we missed the electricity of the live events, the camaraderie of coworkers, and the delight of meeting new people on buses, CES 2021 proved that the technology industry is uniquely suited to carry on in an all-digital environment. These are the companies that invented half the tools, after all. Press conferences went off without a hitch, companies shipped us prototypes to play with, and Digital Trends' unique CES Experience Center made it possible to virtually come together as an editorial team and share our impressions with you, even from afar.
