Love your pets but hate their smells? The Dooli pail may be able to help

The only way to make your pets cuter? To only see (and not smell) them. And now, when it comes to their waste, at least, that’s a possibility. That is, of course, if the new pet waste disposal system known as Dooli is as good as it claims to be. A deodorizing pail setup, this Kickstarter project promises to cater to both cats and dogs, and has branded itself as “the most environmentally friendly pet waste pail on the market.”

While this pail isn’t meant to fully replace your cat’s litter box or your dog’s pad, it aims to quickly address the issue of bad smells without forcing you to take all your pet’s business outside. Using a patented lever mechanism that creates a double seal in the waste bag, Dooli promises to block odors better than other pails. To use the pail, simply lift the lid, use the Dooli Scooper to toss your cat’s litter or your doggy bag into the pail, and then close the lid. The lever technology promises to take care of the rest. You can also choose to have this pet waste pail emit a pleasant scent of its own, and adjust just how much of an air freshener you need after every disposal.

Not only does Dooli promise to be eco-friendly, it’s also meant to be nice to your wallet. Dooli promises nearly twice as many of their seven-layer odor barrier bags for nearly half the cost of competitors.

“Dooli makes the process of pet waste disposal easier than any other pail on the market,” said Alison Diamond, vice president at Dooli. “Our goal here is to take away all unnecessary hassles that come along with other waste pails while making the smallest impact on the environment as possible.”

Right now, you can pre-order the Dooli from Kickstarter for the early bird price of $26, with an estimated delivery date of January 2017. So if you can stand your pets’ smells until early next year, you’ll love them all the more afterwards.

Your Chromebook may soon be able to adjust its screen based on your surroundings
Chrome OS Ambient EQ feature

Your Chromebook’s screen could soon become a lot smarter. Google has announced a new Chrome OS feature called Ambient EQ that will automatically adjust the display’s color temperature and white balance based on your surroundings. The company says the setting will "make the content on screen appear more natural and easier on your eyes."

"With Ambient EQ, Chromebook screens adapt to any context -- whether you’re working outdoors on a sunny day, or if you’re watching a movie while snuggled under a blanket," Alexander Kuscher, director of Chrome OS Software, wrote in a blog post.

Yarn made from lab-grown skin sounds horrifying, but it may help save your life
yarn grown from human skin cells surgeon stitching up patients

You probably won’t want your holiday sweater knitted with it, but yarn grown from human skin cells could nonetheless be a crucially important invention for future tissue grafts and organ repairs. The “human textiles” have been developed by researchers at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research. Unlike synthetic materials which are currently used for things like sutures or scaffolds for growing tissues, skin cell yarn won't provoke an immune system reaction that can cause inflammation in patients. Instead, they could seamlessly be woven into hosts without risk of rejection.

“We start with normal adult human cells that are grown in the lab, at the bottom of a special plastic container,” Nicholas L’Heureux, the researcher who led the work, told Digital Trends. “On that plastic, the cells will synthesize and assemble what is called an ‘extracellular matrix’ or ECM. The ECM is the basic scaffolding of practically every organ in the body. The most abundant, and best know, part of the ECM is a protein called collagen. In the right conditions, the cells will deposit a layer of ECM at the bottom of the container as a continuous sheet.”
