The new Coway Airmega air purifier uses coconuts to make your home safer

This air purifier filters using coconuts

Coway, a South Korean company that creates home health technologies, just announced the launch of the Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS air purifier. The name is only one letter away from its predecessor’s the Coway AP-1512HH (also known as the “Mighty”). That’s because it’s really the same air purifier but with more tech added on. What makes the model with the added S noteworthy?

Coway AP-1512HHFor starters, it has a new, more advanced three-stage filtration process featuring a new honeycomb activated carbon filter made with natural coconut fiber. “The Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS provides clean, purified air by effectively eliminating 99.97 percent of particulates as small as 0.3 microns, including dust, pollen, and smoke particles from your space,” said the company in a press release. This high filtration is good for those with allergies and asthma and can filter pet dander, smoke, including cigarette smoke, and odors from the air. One unit can filter a 325-square-foot room. That’s around the size of an average bedroom.

If air quality dips, the air purifier fan will automatically speed up to process the air faster through the filter. As conditions improve, the fan will automatically slow down. Overall, the Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS has five fan speeds: Auto, Low, Medium, High and Eco (an energy-saving mode that only runs the fan when it’s needed). These fans are quiet and run as low as 24.4 decibels, which is only a little louder than rustling leaves.

This new air purifier comes with mobile connectivity, too. Users can take a look at the Coway IoCare app to check the air quality inside and outside their home, and can turn on the Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS remotely through the app. The Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS air purifier also notifies users of the air quality and if the unit needs a new filter.

The Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS is available right now, as of October 7, 2019, for $299 on the company’s website. There’s no word as of yet on whether it will be available through online or brick-and-mortar retailers in the future.

Instant Brands leaps from multicookers to the new Instant Air Purifier
Instant air purifier with pet.

While the Instant brand is most known for its popular Instant Pot multicookers and related kitchen appliances, the manufacturer is entering a new field with the Instant Air Purifier, designed to help users remove unwanted contaminants from the air.

The Instant Air Purifier, which is currently available for sale for $240, may seem like an odd move for a brand that exists primarily in the kitchen, but the expansion is timely: Instant designed and tested the Air Purifier specifically for dealing with issues like potential COVID-19 virus particles in the air. It uses a three-in-one filtration system with a HEPA-13 filter, a carbon filter to help remove odors, and an antimicrobial filter to prevent the growth of bacteria in the purifier. An additional plasma ion filter helps to sterilize potential harmful particles and reduce particle numbers.
