Google doesn’t appear to be shy when it comes to promoting its Android Pay mobile payment solution. After giving away $20 Best Buy gift cards for using Android Pay last month, the Mountain View company could be readying a new rewards program.

Apparently, a new rewards program called Tap 10, is appearing in the Android Pay app for some users. It’s unknown whether Tap 10 is a small-scale test or something that Google will roll out nationwide. The bottom line is that Google hasn’t announced anything.

From the screenshot, supposedly taken from one user, the promotion offers three free songs of your choice from Google Play Music for using Android Pay 10 times by February 29. While that might not seem like much, digging further into the giveaway details reveals that a free Chromecast is also in play.

It’s believed that the first, second, and sixth taps each earn you a free song from Google Play Music, while the 10th tap gets you a Chromecast. Supposedly you will be given a code in which you can use to redeem at the Google Store.

Android Pay launched as a re-branding of Google Wallet last August, and is in a very competitive mobile payment market, which includes Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Even Walmart and Target are jumping on board.

Android Pay works on just about any Android phone as long as it has near field communications (NFC), and it works in any store that has an NFC terminal. That include McDonald’s, Subway, Macy’s, and so much more. In addition to retailers, Android Pay also works in a variety of apps including Lyft, Open Table, Jet.com, and more.

It’s possible that Google could make an announcement about Tap 10 soon. We will update this post if that does happen, and in the meantime, let us know in the comments if Tap 10 has shown up for you.

Android phones have started receiving crucial anti-theft features
Android Theft Detection on Pixel 9.

At Google I/O earlier this year, a trio of safety features were announced to keep Android devices safe in events like theft, locking the device, and setting up new guardrails so that the phone won’t accept a fresh setup in the hands of a bad actor.

Some of these changes were supposed to arrive in the same window as Android 15’s public release, which is right around the corner. But according to Mishaal Rahman and 9to5Google, they’ve already started appearing to users in the U.S. following a test in Brazil.

The Android 16 code name has leaked, and it’s not what we expected
The display on the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.

We're still waiting for Android 15 to fully release, but we've already found a potential code name for Android 16. Almost every Android version has had a delicious-sounding internal code name (for example, Android 15 is Vanilla Ice Cream, and Android 14 was Upside Down Cake), but Android 16 is named slightly differently, with a nuttier note: Baklava.

Mishaall Rahman from Android Authority received a tip from another developer named teamb58, who took a deep dive into Google's AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and found the name tucked away within the code. While it might seem silly to make guesses about an operating system based on dessert names, Android has a history of changing its naming scheme when a major shift happens. The change from an ice cream-themed name to a pastry indicates changes to Android 16 besides the name.
