Android phones are about to get a major iMessage feature

Being able to edit sent messages is a popular feature on messaging apps like iMessage and WhatsApp. However, it has yet to arrive to the masses via the Google Messages app on Android phones. Thankfully, that could change very soon.

On X (formerly Twitter), Jhow_kira has shared two screenshots demonstrating how the Google Messages editing feature will work in an upcoming software version. Some Android users, including the X poster, are currently testing this new feature.

Once the feature is rolled out, users will be able to edit messages by long-pressing the message they wish to change. They can then tap on a pencil icon located next to the copy, delete, star, and flow options on the top toolbar. The original message can still be accessed from the overflow menu under “View Details,” as shown in the screenshot.

It is unclear when Google Messages will introduce the editing feature to every Android user. However, as some users outside of Google are already testing it, it suggests that the feature will be available soon. Curiously, Google Messages doesn’t already have this feature. Apple added the editing feature to Messages in iOS 16, which was publicly released in September 2022.

Google I/O 2024 kicks off tomorrow, May 14. During this time, we expect Google to spend a lot of time talking about Android 15. Google may also announce developments on Gemini, its upcoming AI platform, and it may even tease the Google Pixel Fold 2. It’s also a perfect opportunity for Google to talk about new features for apps like Google Messages. In other words, we could learn more about RCS message editing as soon as tomorrow.

It's cool to see big announcements from well-known brands, but it's sometimes more fun to find something utterly bizarre that you weren't expecting. That's precisely what happened when I visited Oukitel's booth at CES 2025.

Oukitel isn't a household name in the U.S., though the 18-year-old company has a history of creating some of the weirdest and wackiest Android phones on the market. I saw two of them at this year's CES, both of which are hilariously over-the-top.

The iPhone 17 may get one of the biggest design changes in five years

The iPhone has had a distinctive look since its initial release in 2007. Sure, the sizes have changed, as have materials, but you can generally glance at an iPhone of any generation and say, "Yeah, that's an iPhone." Now, a rumor suggests that the iPhone 17 could draw inspiration from its predecessors and bring back the curved edges that have appeared several times throughout the generations.

Leaker Fixed-Focus Digital shared on Weibo (a Chinese social media platform) that the iPhone 17 would reintroduce the rounded sides of the first few iPhones, doing away with the straight edges current models have. Some fans find the straight sides less comfortable to hold, although a case can make a big difference in how the phone feels in your hand. Fixed-Focus Digital doesn't share further details, but Apple tends to differentiate its premium lineup from the base models. The design change could apply only to the base versions of the iPhone 17, to only the Pro and Pro Max versions, or to every version.

The next iPhone SE may get a surprising name change

The iPhone SE 4 is the long-awaited next entry in the iPhone SE lineup. Information about the device has been scarce, with only a few bits of information leaking out here and there, but now there's a newer, more surprising rumor: that the name of the next iPhone SE might actually be the iPhone 16E.

The news first broke in mid-December from a source that's relatively unknown in the U.S. and was limited to just Weibo. Now, Majin Bu, a tipster with a much more solid track record, shared a post on X recently that supports the news.
