Lance Armstrong is probably the best-known name in cycling, the seven-time Tour de France winner who’s also beaten cancer. In other words, he has a lot of fans.
That will be a big help, since he’s enlisting some of them to help find his stolen time trial bike. On discovering the theft while taking part in the Tour of California, he messaged his 112,000 followers on micro-blogging service Twitter to help find it. Initially he said:
"Someone stole my time trial bike! Wtf?!? APB out to the twitterati."
Later he posted a picture of the bike, saying "there is only one like it in the world," meaning it’s "therefore hard to pawn it off". He is offering a reward for its return. So far the bike, which, along with three others, was stolen from the team’s truck, has not been found.
