Motorola might have rolled out the MOTOKRZR way back in mid-2006 when it was trying to capitalize on the starting-to-wane popularity of its RAZR phones. But Boost Mobile thinks now is the “perfect time” to add the flip phone to its lineup—specifically, its Unlimited by Boost offering available at wireless retailers as well as locations like Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, and Sprint retail stores (Boost is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sprint.)
“Now is the perfect time for us to introduce the popular MOTOKRZR to our Unlimited by Boost handset lineup,” said Boost’s VP of product development Neil Lindsay, in a statement. “We doubled our base from 224,000 to 500,000 Unlimited by Boost customers in Q4 alone, and introducing this feature-rich handset will help us keep the momentum going.”
The KRZR features an MP3 music player, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth wireless networking, an integrated GPS, Web and email capabilities, and IM capability (Yahoo, AIM, MSN). The KRZR also sports a speakerphone and a microSD slot for loading media.
Boost is offering the KRZR with the first month of service available free of charge; the phones will also include a week’s free access to “The Latest,” which pulls in local information, news, weather, sports, and entertainment information throughout the day, along with premium channel access to street level maps and driving directions, the Oxford American Dictionary. After the trial period, “The Latest” runs $2.99 a month for basic service, and $4.99 a month for premium service.
The MOTOKRZR itself will go for $249.99—but there are no contracts, activation fees, or credit checks for Unlimited by Boost, which offers flat-rate unlimited calling in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. If you’re in the service area, don’t travel much, and the KRZR’s features are appealing…well, there ya go.
