In addition to the rumored HTC One M8 Ace, it seems that the Taiwanese handset maker has two other new variants on the way: the One M8 Plus and One M8 Advance.
Based on information given to 9to5Google by “sources familiar with HTC’s plans,” the Plus will have the same aluminum construction as the standard One M8, except it will have a water-resistance certification. In addition, it will have a “2K display with highest pixel count to date.” In other words, the display will pack a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The Plus is reported to feature a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor that is backed by 3GB of RAM.
All these specifications line up with previous leaks for the One M8 Prime, which would lead some to believe the Prime and Plus are the same handset. However, there’s one important distinction to note: the camera. Previous leaks indicated the Prime will have the same Duo Camera setup as the original One M8, while sources indicate the Plus will have a 13-megapixel camera. As such, either the Prime and Plus are two separate devices or they’re one in the same and there was some mix up with the leaks.
As for the One M8 Advance, while it will feature the same specifications as the Plus, it will be housed in plastic rather than metal, so it lacks the water-resistance quality. The Plus and Advance are set to be available in August or early September, with sources saying they will launch before Apple’s iPhone 6.
