When Xiaomi first launched the Mi Mix, many found it a very interesting concept, and some even suggested that its edge-to-edge display would be implemented by other companies in the near future. Well, it looks like that prediction could come true — the Huawei Honor brand is launching the “Magic” on December 16, a phone that many expect to have a similar display to the Mi Mix.
Honor first teased the device on December 14 on Chinese social media site Weibo, and the teaser clearly shows a concept phone of some kind. According to leaks, the display will cover almost the entire front of the phone, with only two small slits of non-display space on the top and bottom of the phone’s front face.
The phone’s display will also allegedly be curved on all four edges, and because of its large display, it will have a very high screen-to-body ratio.
Of course, the display isn’t the only thing about the phone worth noting. The device will also reportedly feature Huawei’s own fast charging technology, which could very well be aided by graphene-assisted batteries, which Huawei recently announced. Interestingly enough, the device may have the capacitive buttons that are normally found on Huawei devices, according to some reports. It may also not have a headphone jack, however the company reportedly plans to ship the phone with an adapter to compensate for that. Some rumors even indicate that the phone won’t come with a camera sensor or a speaker — although we would be somewhat surprised if that turned out to be true.
Safe to say, the phone will end up being a very interesting one. It’s not yet known how wide of a release the device will get, and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it in the U.S.
