Sure, iPod dock and charging stations are pretty commonplace accessories, but every now and again someone comes up with a unique spin on these everyday items. Such is the case with Kensington’s new Charging Dock with Mini Battery Pack for the iPhone and iPod, which not only recharges an iPhone or iPod for mobile use, but also pumps juice into a Mini Battery Pack so folks can be away from charing docks even longer.

The Charging Dock is compatible iPhone 3G (we assume the 3GS, as well,), iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nanos, iPod classic, iPod mini, and the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th generation iPods. The Mini Battery Pack enables users to keep their Apple devices going even when the built-in batteries run out of juice: it can keep a third-generation iPod nano going for up to 30 hours of music or 6 hours of video, and let an iPhone keep talking for up to three hours. The charging dock comes with a USB cable for charging and syncing, and the station can charge iPhones and iPods even when they’re in cases—assuming the dock connectors are accessible.

However, getting the latest iPhone is just the start. You'll also want to — and in some cases need to — accessorize it. For most folks, the first step is protecting it in a good case. The new Camera Control button makes that trickier than usual, but the good news is that some case makers are already on it.
