Amazon is offering price cuts on its Kindle Fire HD tablets, using this month’s Valentine’s Day as the focus of its latest tablet promotion.
The e-commerce giant has knocked $30 off the cost of the 16GB Wi-Fi-only 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD, leaving it with a $269 price tag. The discount is also available with the 32GB version, meaning you’ll only have to fork out $339 instead of the usual $369.
A more generous $50 discount is being offered with the 4G LTE versions of Amazon’s 8.9-inch tablet, reducing the 32GB model to $449 and the top-of-the-range 64GB offering to $549.
To secure the discount, you need to enter the promotion code – Firelove – on the checkout page.
It’s not the first time the company has discounted the devices since they first hit the market in 2011. In December it knocked $50 off the 8.9-inch models of the Fire in a one-day sale, while last month students were offered a price cut in a longer promotion that finished up last week.
Amazon is hoping to pick up a few extra Kindle Fire sales by linking the promotion to Valentine’s Day. A tongue-in-cheek release from the company outlines various ways that “Kindle can act as Cupid and make Valentine’s Day special for you and your significant other”.
It suggests “lovebirds” use a Kindle Fire to watch romantic comedies or, “if you’re ever apart from your loved one”, to use Skype on the tablet to stay in touch.
For singletons, the Seattle-based company suggests you “show yourself some love with any Kindle device and spend February 14th and beyond with your favorite rom-coms or perhaps indulge with a few spicy chapters of 50 Shades.”
The US-based offer runs until February 8 and is limited to one tablet per customer.
