MetroPCS will give you $60 to spend on any of its phones if you make the switch

According to T-Mobile CEO John Legere, his company’s prepaid carrier, MetroPCS, is “taking the fight to Sprint” by unveiling a new phone promotion, a deal pertaining to MetroPCS’s family plan, and a new ad campaign.

Beginning with the promotion, MetroPCS offers $60 off any phone if you port your number over. Given MetroPCS’s propensity for selling very affordable phones, the promotion offers potential customers nine phones for free, though you are still on the hook for the sales tax in your state.

The nine phones are the LG K7, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, Samsung Galaxy On5, ZTE Avid Plus, Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL, HTC Desire 626s, ZTE Obsidian, Kyocera Hydro Wave, and LG Leon LTE. If you are not interested in any of the aforementioned phones, the promotion applies to any phone MetroPCS currently sells.

In addition to the phone promotion, if you are on MetroPCS’ family plan that includes 5GB of data (or higher) for $50 a month, or on a more expensive plan, the carrier now lets you add an additional line with 5GB of data for an extra $25 a month.

Finally, MetroPCS will launch a series of advertisements that include UFC fighters like Ronda Rousey, Paige VanZant, and Anthony Pettis. The first ad spot featuring Rousey is currently available for your viewing pleasure, while more ads will debut on Fox during The Ultimate Fighter on July 8. The two promotions, meanwhile, are currently available, though T-Mobile did not say when they might expire.

It is interesting to see T-Mobile continually gunning for Sprint in the prepaid sector, seeing how the former surpassed the latter in terms of prepaid customers and has not relinquished its top position since. It certainly helps that T-Mobile included in MetroPCS plans several features originally available in its own plans, such as Music Freedom and Binge On.

Apple may finally admit that 8GB isn’t enough RAM for an iPhone
Leaked render of iPhone 17 Pro Max front glass and rear camera bar module.

These days, 8GB of RAM is the baseline for Apple devices (the minimum amount required to run Apple Intelligence.) Several insiders have already suggested the iPhone 17 Pro could see a RAM boost up to 12GB, and now Jeff Pu of GFHK Tech Research has thrown his hat into the ring — and he agrees that it's likely.

For the past several generations, each new series of iPhone has seen an upgrade to its internals. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max both had 8GB of RAM compared to the 6GB in their non-Pro variants, while the full iPhone 16 lineup has 8GB. A jump to 12GB for the iPhone 17 Pro suggests it could have access to yet-to-be-announced Apple Intelligence features, but it also makes the phone more future-proof.

Oura has given women another great reason to wear its smart ring
A person holding the Oura Ring 4.

Oura has made significant changes to the algorithm controlling the Oura Ring’s Readiness Score, to help provide a more accurate and useful number to women tracking their menstrual cycles. The update joins an announcement the company will be working with Scripps Research Digital Trials Center on a study into advancing our understanding of physiological changes during pregnancy.

The algorithm change will see the Readiness Score — which is collated using sleep, body temperature, heart rate, and heart rate variability (HRV) and other sensor data — adapt according to your cycle, and give a more accurate score that makes it easier to understand your daily condition. Oura says 65% of wearers may see an impact on their scores, due to the key data points used to create the Readiness Score naturally changing during the luteal phase of their cycle. However, it adds that the Readiness Score will only be lower on around three percent of tracked days.
