We heard back in February that a successor to the highly regarded Moto X handset will likely arrive “sometime in the summer,” though a leak from the more-hits-than-misses @evleaks over the weekend suggested it would be “coming soon.”

Whether this means soon-late-spring or soon-early-summer isn’t entirely clear, but the leaker does provide us with one other tidbit – the device could be called the Moto X+1. Like the sound of that?

And that, truth be told, was pretty much the sum of @evleaks‘ tweet – ie. a suggestion that it could land a little earlier than first thought, and may be called the X+1.

Of course, “X+1” may simply be a codename for Motorola Mobility’s forthcoming handset, or simply wildly inaccurate information, but @evleaks has a decent enough record when it comes to spilling the secrets of mobile makers around the world.

The so-called Moto X+1 is expected to launch alongside Motorola’s first smartwatch – the Moto 360 – a device first confirmed by Motorola executives at MWC in February. The Lenovo-owned company recently released more information on the watch’s design, unveiling a circular display in contrast with the usual square or rectangular offerings currently hitting the smartwatch market. According to Motorola, the device is built with “premium materials” and can be controlled through voice- and gesture-based commands.

As for the Moto X successor, details are admittedly scant, but a decent spec bump should ensure the highly customizable handset remains a favorite of many in the tech community, as well as with consumers, providing the company with a steady stream of sales.
