New Details Emerge on Ubuntu Mobile

Cult followers of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution already know that their favorite operating system will make the jump from computers to mobile devices, but new details have begun to emerge recently. Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, formally added Ubuntu Mobile to its product page and more fully described its capabilities.

To accommodate for touch screens, Canonical retooled the Ubuntu interface to work with taps and gestures. One press on a button launches an application or menu, while swiping a finger on a Web page pans it, and swiping a video, photo, song or thumbnail page acts as “forward” button.

To give device manufacturers and application developers more control, Ubuntu Mobile allows custom users interfaces to be developed in HTML, Flash, Clutter, Python, GTK, C/C++, GTK and Java. It also offers full AJAX fidelity for Web 2.0 applications.

System requirements for Ubuntu mobile include an Intel Silverthorne processor, 256MB of RAM,and 2GB or more of flash or hard drive space. Although it will eventually see a public release in 2008, right now Canonical is courting manufacturers with pre-release versions of the system for upcoming mobile devices.

T-Mobile just made its 5G Home Internet plan cheaper; here’s the new price

T-Mobile, the nation's third-largest carrier, recently dropped the price of its home internet plan. The company is also offering a prepaid Mastercard for customers who sign up for the service.

As reported by CNET, the T-Mobile Home Internet plan is decreasing in price from $60 to $50 per month. This new rate includes a $5 monthly discount for enrolling in automatic payments. Customers can save up to $20 monthly when bundling the service with the company's Go5G Next, Go5G Plus, or Magenta Max phone plans.

It appears that today's news is all about smartphone colors. Earlier, we mentioned that an upcoming Google Pixel 9 could be available in a bright pink color. Now, we have information about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 FE colors.

According to leaker Ross Young (posting on X, formerly Twitter), Samsung plans to release its next "Fan Edition" phone in black, gray, light blue, light green, and yellow. The Galaxy S23 FE is currently available in graphite, purple, cream, mint, tangerine, and indigo.

Sony has generally struggled to sell smartphones in the North American market alongside bigger players like Samsung and Apple, to the point that it has more or less exited. Sony has always had a strong market in Japan, but even that has been changing recently, with Sony’s market share falling fast against competitors in its home market.
