New video reveals Motorola Droid 3 details

German site PhonePads revealed a thorough look at the Motorola Droid 3 over the weekend. Droid fans will be happy to hear that the next-gen handset will come with some considerable upgrades in tow, including:

8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash
1080p HD video recording
MicroUSB and miniHDMI ports
Upgraded slide-out QWERTY keyboard (with the alleged five rows we recently heard about – the top two being number only) in addition to a touchscreen keyboard
Volume keys moved to right side of the device

And just a reminder about the other leaked specs surrounding the Droid 3:

No LTE capability
1GHz dual-core processor
4-inch qHD display, 960 x 540 resolution

What OS version the Droid 3 will use is unknown, and considering we last heard it would be released in June, we’re not certain the handset will run Ice Cream Sandwich. Really, we can’t even be certain it’s running Gingerbread, which would be pretty disappointing, but that is the Android way (the lack of 4G is also somewhat discouraging). Of course if you watch the video, take notice of the “Software shown not final, your screens might vary” warning. MotoBlur is Motorola’s custom UI for Android, which has gotten mixed user reactions. New Motorola Razr might finally have the power it deserves

It seems relatively uncontroversial to say that Motorola's smartphone efforts for the Razr series have been a little lackluster, but that may change with the third phone in the newest Razr line. While nothing's been officially confirmed yet, it would seem that the Razr 3 will feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor, putting it miles ahead of the Razr 1 and 2 in terms of power.

The previous two Razr smartphones left a lot to be desired in a few different areas; however, the poor processing power in both devices was something of a dealbreaker for many potential buyers. The new technical information comes from a teaser posted to the Chinese social media site Weibo by Motorola general manager Shen Jin. The image, seen above, showcases the latest Snapdragon processor being illuminated by what looks like a flip phone in the process of being opened.

The Motorola Razr 3 is expected to arrive in June 2022

Motorola is preparing to launch a third Motorola Razr phone in June 2022, according to a new report from German tech site TechnikNews. In the final days of December 2021, the existence of the Motorola Razr 3 was confirmed via a Weibo post from a Lenovo executive. Now this report (and another from the folks over at XDA Developers) purports to share more precise time frames and spec details. Lenovo's Chen Jin already confirmed that the Razr 3 would be far more powerful than existing Moto Razr phones, and this backs it up. The upcoming device will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which is currently the most powerful model in the Qualcomm series.

This processor has been employed recently by the Honor Magic V and will soon appear in the OnePlus 10 Pro handset. The RAM available would be a solid 12GB, though variants with 8GB and 6GB respectively could also be available with up to 512GB of storage. In contrast, the Motorola Razr 5G came with a pedestrian Snapdragon 765G, the same processor that powers the budget Pixel 5a 5G. The previous Motorola Razr came with an even weaker Snapdragon 710. This would represent a significant improvement over both those efforts if true, and it'll make the Razr a viable alternative to the more powerful and critically acclaimed Galaxy Z Flip 3.
