Nextar Announces Big-screen SNAP GPS Units

When it comes to GPS units, sometimes it’s all about the screen size: nothing is worse than knowing you have perfect directions in front of you, but having to lean forward and squint while driving to try to figure out where you’re going. Nextar wants to ease that pain, announcing new SNAP5 and SNAP7 GPS units that sport 5- and 7-inch touchscreen displays, respectively, along with photo and music capabilities and Tele Atlas maps of the U.S. and Canada.

"With the addition of these two models, our slim SNAP navigation systems line offers displays for a wide-range of needs," said Nextar founder Eddy Zheng, in a release. "Slim design, choice of screen size, complete coverage of two countries, and lots of terrific features make our SNAP lineup the perfect solution for the most discriminating buyer."

The new units measure just 0.7 inches thick, and offer integrated stereo speaks and text-to-speech technology for spoken directions in English, Spanish, and French. A 3D mapping mode makes it easier to understand locations, and a night mode activates additional screen lighting for easier viewing. Both units can play MP3 music and display JPEG photos, and media can be loaded via an SD card slot.

Nextar says the SNAP5 and SNAP7 should be available this spring for suggested prices of $299.99 and $349.99, respectively.

Google just announced five big updates for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
A render of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in a Mint color.

While the Android world is currently buzzing around the Samsung Galaxy S24 and OnePlus 12, Google has just announced a few big updates to the Pixel 8 series.

The first update is a new Mint color. It's available for the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and if you ask me, it looks fantastic. It's a calming mint shade that's not too intense but also not so muted that it's boring to look at. I think it's a strong contender for one of the best Pixel colors we've seen in a while.

Latest Galaxy Z Flip 5 leak shows a big screen upgrade
The cover screen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

We've been hearing rumors regarding the exterior screen for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 for a few months, but a new render seems to further corroborate those previous reports while also providing a sliver of new information. According to an image shared by SamMobile, expect the Z Flip 5 to have a screen that covers nearly the entirety of the closed top section of the foldable — a huge upgrade over the Z Flip 4.

The previous concept images we've seen (shared by YouTube leaker SuperRoader) imagined the front display to be split into two discrete parts: one small screen next to the cameras to display the time, battery life, and other quick information — plus a larger screen that takes up the rest of the space that can be used to respond to notifications, take selfies using the rear cameras, and interact with the rest of the phone's features without needing to unfold it.

TCL 40 SE wows CES 2023 with 90Hz screen, big camera, $169 price tag
TCL 40 SE back design.

TCL, in typical tech show fashion, has unloaded a whole bag of new devices at CES 2023. Among them is the new TCL 40 series of phones, which cover all the basics from a high-refresh-rate screen to a Google Pixel 7-matching 50MP camera — all for around $200 or less.

Leading the budget phone assault is the TCL 40 SE, which costs $169 and will soon be hitting  retail shelves starting with the European market. It offers a 6.75-inch display with an HD+ resolution, and 450 nits of peak brightness. Those are not eye-popping numbers by any stretch of the imagination, and neither is the thick chin very easy on the eyes. But hey, it's a dirt-cheap phone, and TCL has at least tried to jazz things up on the rear panel.
