Palm Treo fans on the Verizon Wireless network may have some reason to rejoice today: the company is finally offering the Palm Treo 755p smartphone. The device—available in an exclusive deep blue-green—is available for online ordering now, and will be in Verizon Wireless stores in early January.

The announcement comes over six months after the 755p arrived at Verizon Wireless competitor Sprint—and the disparity doesn’t end with the product’s timing. Verizon Wireless is asking $399.99 for the phone after a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year service agreement, although customers who buy the right voice plan can also get a $100 credit toward the Treo 755p. Sprint is routinely offering the phone online for $249 with a similar service commitment.

Of course, the device operates on Verizon Wireless’s EV-DO network can can tap into Verizon’s mobile media services, and can work as a model with notebook PCs, enabling access to Verizon Wireless’s BroadbandAccess Connect service.

After a year or two of steady growth in 5G performance among the big three U.S. carriers, things seemed to level off in 2023, with reports showing mostly incremental improvements each quarter.

However, it seems that the underdogs took a big leap forward in the last three months of the year. According to Ookla’s latest market research, Verizon and AT&T showed 5G speed increases of over 20% from the prior quarter — a change that’s resulted in Verizon significantly narrowing T-Mobile’s longstanding lead.

Verizon just got an incredible bundle for Netflix and Max fans
The My Netflix section of the Netflix app on an iPhone.

Earlier this year, Verizon announced its new myPlan packages, an “à la carte” offering that lets customers pay for only the extra services they want rather than what the carrier decides is good for them.

Now, Verizon is sweetening the pot with a new streaming bundle that will tie together Netflix and Max into a single $10-per-month add-on. That works out to a 40% savings compared to subscribing to the two services individually.

Verizon's mobile plans are being restructured to provide customers with the flexibility to choose only the perks they actually plan to use — and save money in the process.

Although Verizon’s plans have always packed in a lot of extras, the company candidly admits that these have become “bloated bundles” that force folks to pay for a bunch of services they may not want or need. This week, Verizon announced it’s leaving that “one-size-fits-all” approach behind to allow customers to build the bundle of services and perks they want.
