Plantronics Orders Up AudioIQ Noise Tech

Plantronics Orders Up AudioIQ Noise Tech

Plantronics today at CES unveiled a new Bluetooth headset they say is a breakthrough in DSP (digital signal processing) sound technology . The  Discovery 665 will be available for $149.95 at major retailers in February 2007.

The Plantronics Discovery 665 uses a new DSP technology called AudioIQ to influence both sides of a wireless call. For incoming calls, AudioIQ reportedly automatically adapts to background noise levels and intelligently improves the receive quality, clarity and volume level. For outgoing calls, AudioIQ reduces background noise for listeners up to 7-8 decibels, or by approximately 50 percent. It also minimizes interference from artifacts such as speech distortions to maintain exceptionally clear voice intelligibility.

Other features of the Discovery 665 include a unique charging and storage system for automobiles that also includes a new visual indicator for incoming calls, QuickPair technology for simplifing the Bluetooth setup process for consumers by automatically initiating pairing mode (when powered) if no device history is present, an ultra-light design and customizable eartips.

"AudioIQ goes beyond making conversations sound great — it’s about making communications easier and more natural for people on both sides of a call," said Renee Niemi, general manager & vice president of Mobile & Entertainment for Plantronics. "By incorporating AudioIQ into Plantronics’ new Bluetooth headsets, we are delivering optimal communications capabilities alongside our incomparable style and comfort."

Nomad’s sold-out Apple Watch band is back and cooler than ever
The Nomad Glow in the Dark Icy Blue Apple Watch band.

Nomad’s back with another glow-in-the-dark Apple Watch band, and just as with previous versions, it’s a limited edition, so if you want one, you'd better be quick. Why? They've proven so popular in the past that they've quickly sold out. The latest model is cooler than the last two versions and that's meant in the most real sense of the word, as it's called the Glow in the Dark Icy Blue Sport Band.

During the day, Nomad’s sport band takes on a pale blue, almost white shade, but when the lights go down, it transforms into a chilled, yet striking blue color. The band uses photoluminescence to collect its light and glow once the source disappears, but the effect has been enhanced to the point where Nomad claims it’s three times brighter than the original Glow Sport Band.

An iPhone perched atop a Satechi OntheGo wireless power bank.

Satechi has just introduced a fresh portfolio of charging gear at CES 2025 that taps into the next-gen Qi2 wireless charging standard. The first addition to the lineup is the OntheGo power bank, which comes in 10,000 mAh and 5,000 mAh variants.

These power banks offer up to 15-watt charging output and embrace an improved heat dissipation design. They natively support iPhones with MagSafe hardware, but will also play just fine with Qi2-ready Android phones or devices protected with a magnetic case.

The new Lenovo Legion Tab is the Nexus 7 replacement I’ve waited years for
The back of the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3.

One of my favorite Android tablets was the original Nexus 7 (I also loved the second-gen model that launched a year later). Google's 7-inch Android tablets were well-made, had capable specs, and were unbelievably affordable. Both models were critically acclaimed and set a new standard for powerful, compact tablets that weren't outrageously expensive.

Unfortunately, we haven't had anything quite like the Nexus 7 for well over a decade. Small Android tablets still exist, but they're often budget-focused models with far too many compromises. If you want a properly capable and compact tablet, you need to buy an iPad mini. At least you used to.
