Police Catch Thieves By Text

There are times when texting can be dangerous to your health. They don’t usually add “and your liberty” but that was the case for a pair of North Carolina teens.

Police in Terrell, NC, had been called to a series of break-ins at businesses, then went to the apartment of a 16-year-old suspect, who promptly fled, outrunning officers. However, Mayor Coy Reid told local paper the Hickory Daily Record, “when we lost track of him, the deputies searched several nearby areas. One of the deputies walked about 50 yards from where the suspect was last seen, and found him laying down behind a tree.”

Of course, he had his cell phone with him, and as he was being arrested, received a text asking if he’d been caught.

Police officers returned a message saying no, and asking the texter to pick up the suspect. When he arrived, the second teen was arrested, and shortly after officer found a van containing most of the loot – which was then returned to its rightful owners.
“We think they stole all of them, and are selling them to a chop shop or to someone else for money,” Reid said. “We found a large amount of cash on the suspects.”

Your Wear OS smartwatch could soon get RCS texting
The Google Pixel Watch 3 next to the Pixel Watch.

Your Wear OS smartwatch brings a lot to the table. Fitness tracking, Google Pay, and so many other features live on your wrist, but the watch doesn't have an independent connection from your phone. If you don't have your phone nearby, you can't respond to text messages. New code discovered in the most recent Google Messages app update suggests that could be about to change.

In an APK teardown, Android Authority's Aamir Siddiqui found several lines of code that indicate Google is bringing standalone RCS to Wear OS smartwatches. The flags were found in the Google Messages v20240926 beta and point to not only on-device RCS messaging, but also voice messaging.

Samsung might launch a third folding phone this year, but there’s a catch
Galaxy Z Fold 6 unfolded

Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, there's a rumor that another foldable phone from the company will be released before the end of the year. However, this news comes with a huge asterisk. According to reliable leaker Max Jambor, Samsung reportedly plans to launch another foldable phone, possibly the "Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra" or "Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim." This new phone may be announced around the same time as Samsung's latest tablets, likely in October.

The catch? The new phone might only be available in South Korea and China.

The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 looks great. But there’s a catch
Two Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 smartwatches laying next to each other on a table.

This is a big year for Samsung's smartwatches — specifically because of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. It's a brand new type of smartwatch for the company, has a truly wild design, and is bound to be a controversial release due to its striking resemblances to the Apple Watch Ultra. But that's not the only smartwatch Samsung's launching this year.

Alongside its Ultra wearable, Samsung has also announced the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7. It's not nearly as flashy as its Ultra sibling, but it's likely the Galaxy Watch most people will actually buy. It has a more approachable design, many of the same new features as the Galaxy Watch Ultra, and is hundreds of dollars cheaper, too.
