Could the humble flip phone possibly be making a comeback? Samsung seems to think so, and a number of rumors and benchmarks have popped up for what will likely end up being the Galaxy Golden 4, a phone that has the model number SM-W2017, and that is expected to be a follow-up to last year’s SM-W2016. The phone also has the code-name Veyron, after the Bugatti Veyron supercar.

Of course, while flip phones may be totally out of date in the U.S., they still do pretty well in areas like Japan. But what will the latest and greatest Samsung flip phone bring? Well, according to leaked benchmarks it’s shaping up to be a pretty powerful phone indeed.

In fact, the phone, according to a Geekbench log, will feature Qualcomm’s flagship processor, the Snapdragon 820, coupled with a very decent 4GB of RAM. On top of that the phone will ship with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which will likely get upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat at some point in the near future. The rear-facing camera on the phone is 12MP and the front-facing is 5MP.

In other words, this phone is on par with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Note 7 when it comes to specs. The only real difference is the design. Apart from the overall look — with the phone featuring a flip design rather than a slab — the display measures a comparatively small 4.2-inches.

Unfortunately we don’t know exactly what the phone will look like just yet — no photos have even been leaked to date. The code name, however, suggests the phone may indeed be pretty luxurious.

We also don’t know about pricing or a release date, and considering the fact that flip phones don’t do so well in the U.S. anymore it would be surprising to see it available here. Surprising, but not impossible!

It increasingly seems likely that Samsung’s foldable phone strategy is aiming for a lower price bracket. Right now, a taste of Galaxy foldables will cost you a minimum of $1,000. However, an upcoming entry-level foldable phone might bring that barrier down to just $800.

Samsung may have a big surprise in store with its next folding phone

As Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 continues in Barcelona, Spain, there are whispers that Samsung could be releasing not one, but two Galaxy Z Fold 6 models. More specifically, one of them could be a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, at least according to a report from WinFuture. If this is the case, it will be the first time that Samsung releases two Z Fold variants at the same time — and the first time we've seen an Ultra model in the Z Fold family.

For some time now, there has been a rumor that Samsung was possibly launching a second “fold” in the Galaxy Z series, which currently includes the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, most of the rumors up until this point have suggested that a second “Fold” model would have been a cheaper, more affordable variant. However, that may not be the case.
