Samsung Galaxy Unpacked invites roll out for February 9

Samsung has officially sent out invites for its next big flagship smartphone and tablet launch. The company initially shared that it would be hosting its first major Samsung Galaxy Unpacked in February, but today finally confirmed that the event will take place at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, February 9, That’s 7 a.m. PT for those on the West Coast.

As with most tech events held during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’ll be a fully remote, livestreamed affair, with viewers able to catch the show on Samsung’s official website.

What are we expecting?

As for what we expect, Samsung is debuting the Galaxy S22 series at the event, alongside the Galaxy Tab S8. Reports detailing specs and pricing for all devices expected to be revealed have already leaked over the past couple of weeks. Most importantly, Samsung is also expected to refresh the Galaxy Note line for the first time in two years, kinda. The company is reportedly preparing a Galaxy S22 Ultra that is built with the same design as former Notes, complete with a built-in S Pen.

“We know many of you were surprised when Samsung didn’t release a new Galaxy Note last year. You loved the unparalleled creativity and efficiency of the Galaxy Note series, which enabled you to switch from gaming nirvana to high-octane productivity in the blink of an eye. You raved about the lifelike S Pen, which many say rivals putting ink to paper. And we haven’t forgotten about these experiences you love,” Samsung Pr Roh said in a release.

If the reports are true (and the effusive focus on the Note’s history certainly hints at it), the S22 Ultra is set up to be the Note fans knew and loved in everything but name. As Shakespeare once said: “What’s in a name?” The key feature that decides if the S22 Ultra is a winner for Note fans will be if it allows for the S Pen to be docked in the phone without requiring a special case.

When companies release new smartphones, they usually call out a specific camera specification or two. Samsung’s One UI 7 beta is out today. Here are all the new features

Samsung has started the official rollout of the latest version of its One UI software for Galaxy smartphones, and there’s a very good chance you can try it out today. One UI 7 has been released as a beta version and is available for Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones in the U.S., the U.K., India, Korea, Germany, and Poland starting today, December 5. To try it out, you must sign up to join the beta program, but what features will you get if you do?
New design and simplified home screen
Samsung says One UI 7 has a “significant new look” and a “simple, impactful, and emotive design” that includes less clutter on the screen, new One UI widgets, and greater customization features to give you finer control over the look and function of the software. The home screen and the lock screen have been simplified, too.
Now Bar
The most intriguing new design feature in One UI 7 is the Now Bar. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait to try it out because it’s “set to be supported on upcoming Galaxy S series devices,” which means it’s probably not going to appear on the Galaxy S24 or earlier devices and won't be inside the beta version of the software you can try today.

The Now Bar is part of a new notification system that reduces the need to unlock your phone to view information or interact with notifications while also highlighting certain activities like music playback, the stopwatch, voice recording, and the AI Interpreter mode. Samsung claims the Now Bar will “transform the lock screen experience” and promises to support it with new features in the future. We may not get a look at the Now Bar until the Galaxy S25’s release, but it sounds a lot like Apple’s Dynamic Island and Live Activities features.

There’s a new Samsung Galaxy S25 spec leak, and it’s a bit disappointing

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is still a couple of months away, but a new leak from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website, first spotted by 91Mobiles, has given us a major sneak peek of what to expect. While a few of these specs were already expected, some others are a bit, well, disappointing.

From the FCC listings, there appear to be three models for the S25 line: SM–931U, SM–936U, and SM–938U. All three models will support 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and NFC connectivity. There is also mention of two models having an ultrawide band on them, but it looks to be just the Galaxy S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, which means the base model S25 will lack UWB. Features that use UWB include precision tracking with item trackers or locating lost devices, so those who end up with the base model S25 will miss out on such features.
