Samsung is having another Unpacked event on September 23 — we have no idea why

Samsung had its a big (virtual) Galaxy Unpacked event in early August, where it took the wraps off of the new Note 20 series and the Galaxy Live buds. Then, it had a second smaller Unpacked event where it launched the Galaxy Z Fold 2 foldable. Now, the company is doing a third launch event in less than two months, which it has scheduled for September 23, and is being marketed with the tag line “Unpacked for Every Fan.”

The jury’s out as to what this event is actually for. Samsung has sent out an invitation to the event, which includes a graphic with two phone-shaped blobs. That’s about all the clues we have so far as to what we’ll see on September 23.

Of course, we can always speculate. It’s possible that Samsung will launch “Fan Edition” versions of the phones that it has already launched this year. Or, perhaps we’ll see other devices and accessories that aren’t actual smartphones, but are instead related to the Galaxy ecosystem of products in some way. Or, maybe we’ll see the Bixby-based Samsung Galaxy Home smart speaker that was first announced over two years ago and has yet to be released. (Don’t hold your breath.)

It’s also possible that the event could be more software-related than hardware-related. Perhaps Samsung is using the fact that holding virtual events is relatively cheap compared to physical ones as an opportunity to put more eyes on the upcoming One UI 3.0 software release. A developer beta for One UI 3.0 was recently announced for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. So far, the beta is only for approved developers, and as such we don’t know exactly what kinds of new features are available just yet — but the operating system is built on Android 11. As such, the operating system will include things like better privacy controls, support for the new Chat Bubbles system, and more. You can check out our guide on all the new Android 11 features here.

The event will be held on September 23 at 7 a.m. PT, or 10 a.m. ET, and Samsung will be livestreaming the event straight from its website — so if you’re as curious as we are as to what to expect, be sure to tune in.

We’ve got our first big clue about the Galaxy S25’s arrival
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in Titanium Gray in hand.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 has had a tentative early 2025 launch date for months now, but we might finally have an actual date to look forward to. Samsung will hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event on January 23, according to FNNews, a South Korean website, with the Galaxy S25 series as the star of the show. It's the most precise date we have seen yet for the speculated Galaxy S25 announcement.

Take this news with some skepticism, though, as Samsung has not confirmed any dates for its Unpacked event yet. The report also states San Francisco is "a strong candidate" for the city to host the event. The last Galaxy Unpacked event was held in Paris in July.

Here’s every color we expect for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series
Side profile of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE.

A few weeks ago, we found out what colors to expect from the Galaxy S25 lineup when it launches in January. While those were all welcome choices, we didn't learn what the online-exclusive options would be. A leak from a well-known insider gives us an idea of what those might be.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ross Young said he had found more colors. For the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, those are Coral Red, Pink Gold, and Blue/Black. For the S25 Ultimate, the choices are Titanium Blue/Black, Titanium Jade Green, and Titanium Pink/Silver.

The OnePlus 13 may have already killed the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
The white OnePlus 13.

Did OnePlus, in October 2024, just announce one of the best smartphones of 2025? It very well may have, because OnePlus has officially launched the OnePlus 13.

Well, sort of. The OnePlus 13 is now available in China, though it'll be a while before it comes to the U.S. and other parts of the world. Although it'll likely be December or January before you and I get our hands on the OnePlus 13, the wait should be worth it. The OnePlus 13 already looks like one of next year's best phones — and it may have simultaneously caused the premature death of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
