Sony Ericsson Announces Nature-Themed S500

Sony-Ericsson has announced it’s slim new 500 slider phone, which features a slim 14mmm profile and design elements drawn in materials and cycles found in nature.

"It’s the small details that set these phones apart," explains Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications president Najmi Jarwala, president, in a statement. "Our designers have taken inspiration from nature to produce phones that are beautiful and alive with energy. They appeal to those that want to celebrate their individuality and express themselves through their choice of phone."

To that end, the S500 features constantly shifting themes and lighting which changes as day turns to night, and even alters with the change of the seasons or as a weekend gets underway. Graphics on the phone change automatically over time, the phone offers hidden illumination to highlight a certain event, and the phone’s keypad also glows when the slider is opened. The S500 will be available in "Mysterious Green" and "Spring Yellow" color schemes.

Under the hood, the quad-band GSM S500 will offer a 2 megapixel camera with picture blogging capability, music playback options (with support for MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+), Internet browsing and RSS support, a built-in speakerphone, a sound recorder, Bluetooth 2.0 wireless connectivity, USB, and up to 12 MB of internal memory. Users can add their own media libraries via Memory Stick Micro media, and Sony-Ericsson is promising up to 9 hours of talk time and 370 hours of standby time.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but Sony Ericsson expects the S500 will land in North America during the third quarter of 2007.

Everything Samsung announced at Unpacked: Galaxy S23, Galaxy Book 3, and more
The Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra all next to each other.

Samsung's held its first Unpacked event for 2023, where the company launched the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. Alongside that, Samsung powered up its ecosystem play by updating its MacBook competitor, the Galaxy Book line.

There's quite a lot being unpacked, and nothing here is going to be cheap. Though Samsung has managed to claw its way to the top in the Android market by pushing out cheap phones like the Galaxy A14, the company's headline-grabbing devices are often its more expensive -- and more innovative  -- ones.

Sony’s first drone, the Airpeak S1, rockets to 55 mph in just 3.5 seconds
sony airpeak s1 drone news close

Sony has announced its first drone, the Airpeak S1, and it will out-accelerate the competition by rocketing to 50 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 55.9mph. That makes it the fastest accelerating drone in the industry. It’s not competing with small consumer drones like the DJI Mavic Air 2, however -- this is a large pro-level drone designed to carry a gimbal and a full-size camera, ready for commercial use in the skies. And it costs $9,000.

The Airpeak S1 has a 644mm total span, making it similar in size to the DJI Inspire 2 but far more capable in terms of payload and ability. It's the smallest drone that can carry a full-size mirrorless Sony Alpha camera equipped with interchangeable lenses. It uses five stereo cameras and two infrared cameras along with Sony’s new Vision Sensing Processor, and power is delivered using a new propulsion system using brushless motors, and an internal battery for a flight time of up to 22 minutes. Sony promises excellent stability during windy conditions too, stating it will remain steady even when wind speed reaches 44mph or 20 meters per second.
