There are plenty of keyboard docks and extensions available for smartphones and tablets, but even in a crowded market the TextBlade stands out: This new $99 keyboard from WayTools folds up to the size of a pack of gum yet can enable touch typing up to 100 words-per-minute. That’s a serious productivity increase in a pocket-sized package.

If you need to power through a substantial amount of text on the go, then the TextBlade could be the answer. It’s compatible with iOS and Android devices, so you can pair it with just about anything, and a unique multi-touch system allows several letters to share the same key. The space bar doubles as a way of accessing special characters and if the demo video is to be believed, it’s possible to get up quite a head of steam with a little bit of practice.

Despite the diminutive dimensions of the accessory, WayTools says your fingers are only slightly more cramped than they would be on a regular keyboard — and this one is much easier to carry around alongside your smartphone. Battery life is good for around a month and you can charge the keyboard up via USB.

“TextBlade is an entirely new class of device that delivers professional-grade, familiar touch typing to any platform — from iPhones to iPads to Android — without compromising the size or feel of the tablet,” says Mark Knighton, the WayTools CEO. The keys offer 2mm of travel too for that authentic keyboard tapping feel.

If you’re interested in adding a TextBlade to your mobile productivity toolkit then it’s already in production and WayTools is aiming to get the first devices shipped next month. You can also pick up a matching NanoStand for $7.

The first thing you should do with your new Android phone is change the keyboard
change the keyboard on your new phone keyboards

With very few exceptions, the keyboard installed by the manufacturer on your new smartphone is not the best option, and I recommend you change it immediately.

Yes, immediately. Here’s why.
Stop forcing bad keyboards on us
The keyboard is likely one of the most-used touchscreen features on your phone. A good keyboard has precision and tactility, and a flow where it feels natural to type (or swipe) out words quickly and accurately. You instinctively know when you’re typing on a good keyboard, and it’s painfully obvious to everyone, typer and reader alike, when you’re using a bad keyboard.

iOS 14 lets you perform actions by tapping the back of your iPhone
iOS 14 Main Home

At the WWDC keynote, Apple couldn’t run through every feature it’s bringing to iPhones with the iOS 14 update. Buried underneath the pile of headlining announcements, one of the more intriguing additions it skipped is a new gesture that allows you to perform actions by simply tapping the back of your iPhone.

iOS 14 offers an accessibility option (via MacRumors) that lets you trigger actions such as pulling down the Control Center or summoning Siri when you tap the back of an iPhone twice or thrice. There are nearly two dozen actions you can set up, including activating the Reachability mode, taking a screenshot, bringing up Spotlight search, and more. Plus, you can configure different gestures to the two- and three-tap gestures.
