Sicario (2015)

Sicario (2015 Movie - Emily Blunt) Official Trailer – “Hitman”

Intense through its entire two-hour run, Sicario is a gripping action thriller that brings you along for the ride with FBI special agent Kate Macer (The Fall Guy‘s Emily Blunt), who has the monumental task of taking down the leader of a powerful Mexican drug cartel. But as she heads out on a mission with a special CIA task force, she realizes that this might be an even deeper and more dangerous undertaking than it seemed.

Earning three Academy Award nominations, Sicario has every element you could possibly ask for in a great action movie. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem | Official Trailer (2023 Movie) - Seth Rogen

A fun action movie to watch with the kids, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem shows that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg can do more than just raunchy potty humor. The superhero movie centers around the popular crime-fighting turtles and follows the origins of their mutation into human/turtle hybrid creatures. Trained in the art of ninjutsu, they live in the sewers beneath the fast-paced world until, one day, they emerge among humans and fashion themselves heroes.

With a talented ensemble voice cast that includes Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Rose Byrne, Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Rudd, and Rogen himself, among others, kids will love the fun cameo from MrBeast as well. Our reviewer calls the movie a “charming reboot” and an “infectiously funny coming-of-age adventure.”

Fast X (2023)

FAST X | Official Trailer

Somehow, no matter how many times he reappears, seeing Vin Diesel take down enemies in fast cars as Dominic Toretto never gets old. Can you believe that Fast X, as the name implies, is the 10th main entry in this action film franchise? Set on the cobblestone roads of Rome, Dominic’s team is tasked with retrieving a computer chip, and he hopes to delegate the job to others while he remains at home with his wife and son. But, of course, Dominic gets roped into the dangerous situation. With a mission to accomplish, enemies looking to square up old vendettas, and the reveal that the mission might not be what it seems, the team springs into action.

Fast X offers up all the usual fun you expect from this franchise, from crazy car chase scenes to brawny fights. But it’s oh so entertaining. DT’s reviewer singles out Jason Momoa’s villainous character Dante Reyes as a highlight, along with the way the team behind this franchise has “found more clever ways to stage vehicular warfare.”

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (October 2024)
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

Netflix came to play on the second weekend of October. Bad Boys: Ride or Die — one of the top films of the summer — has arrived on the streamer and instantly hit No. 1 on the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. We can't say we're surprised, since even minor action films do well on Netflix. However, this might be the biggest non-Marvel action flick of 2024.

Additionally, Scream — the 2018 film, not the 1996 original — is making its Netflix debut just in time for the Halloween season. This is notably one of the few movies to feature Jenna Ortega before she became the star of Wednesday on Netflix. For that reason alone, we think the film will do really well on its new streaming home.

The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (October 2024)
Blue and Cal in IF.

This may come as a surprise, but one of the top films of summer 2024 has come to Amazon Prime Video this week. IF didn't get a lot of press compared to the other movies last summer, but it legged out $111 million domestically in the most competitive cinema landscape of the year. That's impressive, and it's doing very well on Prime Video so far.

Our dark horse selection of the week is Constantine. This was Keanu Reeves' first — and perhaps only — comic book movie and one of his best flicks in the long years between The Matrix trilogy and his career rebirth in John Wick. You can find these choices and the rest of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video below. We update this list every Friday morning so you can stay on top of the newest arrivals.

Two men in masks hold guns in 2 Guns.

Movies can enter the Netflix top 10 for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes, they're recently released titles that are new to the service or older titles that are nonetheless new to the platform. One such older title that has made its way into the top 10 is 2 Guns, which was originally released back in 2013.

Starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, the movie follows a DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer who are both working undercover inside a cartel. When they cross paths and are abandoned by their superiors, they have to take down the cartel they're both embedded within and learn to trust each other. If you're wondering why the movie is worth watching, and why it's made its way into the top 10, here are three reasons it has remained a hit on Netflix.
