The cast of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
DreamWorks Pictures

Netflix has such a deep library of comedy movies that even when the streamer doesn’t have many new offerings in that genre, it still has plenty of options to fall back on. November is one of those months, which is why we’re putting the spotlight on three comedies that were already on Netflix before this month.

Our featured picks for the month of November are Anchorman, Starsky & Hutch, and Superbad, all of which are films from the early 2000s. If those aren’t what you’re looking for, the best comedies on Netflix also include the action comedy Bad Boys: Ride or Die, EuroTrip, Bridesmaids, and more. You can find all of our selections below.

The roster of comedic actors who appear in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is so ridiculously deep that Ben Stiller, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Luke Wilson, and Fred Armisen only have minor roles. The leading part went to Will Ferrell, who made Ron Burgundy into one of his signature characters.

In the 1970s, Ron ruled the airwaves of San Diego news station KVWN alongside his buddies Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and Champ Kind (David Koechner). Despite his success, Ron is kind of a clueless moron who feels threatened when the station hires its first female anchor, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate). Ron and Veronica quickly develop a love-hate relationship, and their news station may not be big enough for the both of them.

Two decades before helming Joker: Folie à Deux, director Todd Phillips brought the 1970s cop series Starsky & Hutch to the big screen as an action comedy. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, respectively, star as David Starsky and Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson, a pair of detectives who are assigned to be partners because they get into too much trouble by themselves.

Almost in spite of themselves, Starsky and Hutch get a lead on a local drug kingpin, Reese Feldman (Vince Vaughn). With some timely assistance from their informant, Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg), the detectives start building their case against Feldman. However, Feldman proves to be more dangerous than they expected, and the volatile partnership between Starsky and Hutch may not survive their reckless actions.

Seth Rogen co-wrote Superbad as a fictionalized story based on his own life. But by the time the movie was made, the actor wasn’t young enough to play himself. Instead, Jonah Hill had to play Seth, while Arrested Development‘s Michael Cera portrayed his best friend, Evan. Before going their separate ways to different colleges, Seth and Evan, along with their other friend, Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), make plans for one last party together.

Seth and Evan’s attempts to buy alcohol lead them to miss most of the party, while Fogell finds himself entangled with a pair of cops, Michaels (Rogen) and Slater (Bill Hader), who behave even more immaturely than he does. This film also marks Emma Stone’s first movie role as Jules, and she makes a big impression in such a small part.

If you’ve ever heard the song Scotty Doesn’t Know, EuroTrip is the movie where it came from. Part of the joke about why it’s so funny is because of who’s singing it in the film — we won’t spoil that. Suffice to say that Scotty (Scott Mechlowicz) needs a win, as he just blew his chance with his German pen pal, Mieke Schmidt (Jessica Boehrs), because he didn’t realize that she was a young woman.

Desperate to get Mieke to forgive him, Scotty accompanies his friends Cooper Harris (Jacob Pitts), Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg), and Jamie (Travis Wester) on a road trip through Europe that goes hilariously wrong at each and every stop. The film is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024, and it’s still really funny two decades after its release.

We’re not saying that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are getting too old for this [bleep], but surely everyone was surprised when Bad Boys: Ride or Die was one of the big hits of summer 2024. Movie lovers just seem to enjoy a well-made action comedy. In the fourth chapter of his franchise, Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) have their most personal mission to date.

Their late captain, Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano), has been posthumously framed for corruption. Rather than let that stand, Mike and Marcus attempt to clear his name shortly before they’re framed for serious crimes as well. Now, the duo are on the run from the rest of the Miami PD. They must rely on a handful of friends in the department who are willing to risk their own necks to help them.

There isn’t a lot of romance in this comedy, but Bridesmaids made stars out of its leading ladies. Kristen Wiig stars as Annie Walker, a woman whose life is falling apart at the seams. Her best friend, Lillian Donovan (Maya Rudolph), is about to get married, and she asks Annie to be her maid of honor. The bridal party includes Helen Harris III (Rose Byrne), Megan Price (Melissa McCarthy), Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey), and Becca (Ellie Kemper).

Annie and Helen quickly develop a rivalry over their friendship with Lillian, and the latter’s wealth tips the scales in her favor. Almost everything Annie suggests or touches blows up in her face, even her potential rebound romance with Officer Nathan Rhodes (Chris O’Dowd). As bad as things get for Annie, she may be the only woman who can get Lillian to the altar as planned.

Two Weeks Notice didn’t win over critics, but Bullock provided a lot of charm as Lucy Kelson, a passionate bleeding-heart lawyer. Lucy is so striking that billionaire George Wade (Hugh Grant) offers her a job, which she accepts in exchange for the preservation of a community center.

Unfortunately for Lucy, George treats her like a personal assistant and drives her up a wall. As the name of the movie suggests, Lucy gives her notice to George. But over time, they’ve become so close that neither Lucy nor George are ready to quit on each other.

So instead of those movie stars, the focus falls on two losers in the department, Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg).

The careers of Gamble and Hoitz have been hobbled by their own mistakes and personal flaws. But when paired together, they stumble upon a case that could change everything for them … if they can stay alive long enough to solve it.

It only took 30 years, but the fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie has arrived on Netflix. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F brings Eddie Murphy back to one of his most iconic roles for the first time since 1994, as his reputation for causing trouble comes back to haunt him. Axel’s daughter, Jane Saunders (Taylour Paige), is estranged from him, but as soon as he hears that she’s in trouble, he’s on the first plane to Beverly Hills.

The actual Beverly Hills cops are less than happy to see Axel back in town. The lone exception is Jane’s ex-boyfriend, Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). It’s a good thing too, because Axel needs someone to watch his back as he manages to alienate the city’s other cops in record time.

Looking back at Easy A, it seems like the most-obvious thing ever that Emma Stone (Poor Things) was going to be a major star. She just effortlessly carries the movie as Olive Penderghast, a high school student who is unjustly maligned for sleeping with a guy in college. The irony is that Olive didn’t sleep with anyone, but she sees a chance to benefit from her new bad girl reputation.

Essentially, Olive accepts bribes in return for letting guys say that they slept with her. At first, it works out really well for her. But as time goes on, Olive’s rep is hurting her friendships and her chance to be with Todd (Penn Badgley). And none of the guys who Olive lied for are willing to admit the truth and help her out in return.

Lawrence plays Maddie Barker, a woman in her early 30s who is on the verge of losing everything she has, including her home and her car.

Unfortunately for Maddie, dating 19-year-old Percy Becker (newcomer Andrew Barth Feldman) may be next to impossible. He seems impervious to her charms and even afraid of intimacy. After the passing of his wife, Matt (Hart) is determined to do everything in his power to give their daughter the life she deserves. As any parent can attest to, raising a child can be the most beautiful adventure of your life … but also a never-ending nightmare, complete with diapers, saving for college, and any number of unexpected, overbearing situations. While not reinventing the wheel by any means, Fatherhood lands its laughs with kindness and compassion for its characters.

This Netflix original movie tends to get buried under more high-profile releases, but A Futile and Stupid Gesture is a strongly constructed comedy biopic about Douglas Kenney (Bodkin‘s Will Forte), the co-founder of National Lampoon. Martin Mull co-stars as an older Doug while looking back at his career with his comedy partner-in-crime, Henry Beard (Domhnall Gleeson). Together, Douglas and Henry helped revolutionize comedy, and also paved the way for Animal House. But Doug’s struggle with addiction destroys nearly all of his relationships in the process. A very talented supporting cast including Joel McHale, Ed Helms, Matt Lucas, Thomas Lennon, Rick Glassman, and more also play some comedy legends who came to prominence thanks to Doug and Henry. This is a story that needed to be told, even though Doug’s legacy has largely been forgotten.

The best feel-good movies on Netflix right now
Stephan James runs as Jesse Owens in Race.

There probably isn't a certified doctor who would prescribe a feel-good movie to lift your spirits, but sometimes it really helps. Feel-good movies are a subgenre that ranges from comedies to dramas. The secret to their success is that the main characters overcome their anxieties, their personal roadblocks, and all other obstacles to achieve their goals. Who doesn't want to follow that example?

Netflix doesn't have a very robust selection of feel-good movies, but it does have some very good ones. As it happens, this month's new additions, Race and The World's Fastest Indian, are both true stories that share some common elements with each other. Neither film was made for Netflix, so they may not stick around for long. But for now, they have a prime place among the best feel-good movies on Netflix.

The best fantasy movies on Netflix right now
Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing.

Finding great fantasy movies on Netflix is a bit of a fantasy in and of itself. The king of the streamers neglects this category, and it also relies heavily on Universal Pictures' catalog to bail out its shortcomings. That's why it's The Scorpion King and Van Helsing's turn to be on this list while Conan the Barbarian waits for yet another Netflix return.

The Scorpion King and Van Helsing aren't bad movies, but fantasy fans deserve a better selection from Netflix than films that are two decades old. Even this month's third addition, The Covenant, is closing in on 20 years. Netflix has made some original fantasy movies of its own, but not lately. For the most part, the best fantasy movies on Netflix are pretty stagnant. But when something new arrives, we'll be here to add it to the list.
