We’re just a few weeks away from the premiere of Gotham, the new Fox television series that unfolds in Batman’s home city years before the DC Comics superhero made a name for himself there. In a new, extended preview of the series, there’s quite a bit of new footage to be seen — including some intriguing scenes involving the man who will become The Penguin and a certain feline-friendly young thief.
The new trailer is a UK preview for the series, and is introduced by Detective James Gordon himself, actor Ben McKenzie. Over the course of the 2:25-minute preview, we get some additional footage of Gordon and his partner, Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) in action, as well as a few brief scenes involving the future Dark Knight, a young Bruce Wayne played by David Mazouz.
There’s also a nice selection of Batman’s rogues featured in the trailer, including early standout Robin Taylor as Oswald “Don’t call me The Penguin” Cobblepot, Camren Bicondova slinking around the background as Selina Kyle (the future Catwoman), a brief scene with Clare Foley as Ivy Pepper (the future Poison Ivy), and a scene near the end of the preview with Cory Michael Smith as the riddle-obsessed Edward Nygma.
From the trailer, it appears that new character Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) will also play a big role in the series, with her ruthless mob boss serving as the foil to McKenzie’s ever-noble Jim Gordon.
The series is written and executive produced by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), with the pilot episode directed by Emmy-nominee Danny Cannon (CSI, Nikita).
Gotham premieres September 22 on Fox.
