We still have a few weeks left before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arrives on the screen with its new, rebooted spin on the famous heroes in half-shells, and the latest piece of promotion for the film may be worth checking out even if you’re not entirely sold on the Turtles’ new look or origin story.
After the recent Kids’ Choice Sports Awards on Nickelodeon, Paramount debuted a relatively long (17 minutes!) featurette on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hosted by cast members Megan Fox and Will Arnett. Along with offering up quite a bit of new footage from the film, it also takes a long look at the process of bringing the Turtles to the screen in their new forms, with quite a bit of commentary from the actors who provided the voices and motion-capture performances for the Turtles, as well as raw footage of their physical performance on the set.
Even if you get nothing else out of it, seeing the actors work through their stunts with massive shells on their backs is truly something to behold.
While they’re certainly the stars of the film, the Turtles aren’t the only characters featured in the preview, with digitally created co-stars Splinter and — to a lesser degree — Shredder also getting some time in the FX spotlight. The featurette does a nice job of showing the way in which both characters (particularly Shredder) have been modified for the latest incarnation of the franchise.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hits theaters August 8. You can watch the featurette below:
