It’s been public knowledge for a while now that Godzilla will square off against other, city-stomping creatures in director Gareth Edwards’ upcoming reboot of the famous monster’s big-screen franchise, but the context for that showdown has largely remained the stuff of speculation — until now, that is.
In one of the latest clips released by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, characters played by Ken Watanabe and David Strathairn discuss the likelihood that an unidentified “alpha predator” (probably Godzilla) will be able to defeat some other unknown threats (probably the other giant monsters glimpsed in previous footage from the film). After offering a cryptic response regarding man’s inability to control nature, the sequence shifts to a shot of a massive, winged creature flying through a city, then Godzilla himself rising from the rubble at one end of a busy street.
And thus, the monstrous showdown begins…
Along with the aforementioned clip, the studio also released four more clips from Godzilla that focus on actors Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as well as a batch of new stills from the film. The stills offer up some clear shots of Godzilla and his supporting cast of human actors.
You can watch all five clips below (beginning with the showdown sequence), and view the new images released by the studio in the accompanying photo gallery.
Godzilla hits theaters May 16, and stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, and David Strathairn.
