What a world we live in where Venom: The Last Dance is the No. 1 film domestically for three straight weeks. Good for Tom Hardy, who genuinely loves playing Eddie Brock. A new entry, Heretic, also opened to a respectable $11 million last weekend. Venom’s reign will probably end this weekend, however, when Dwayne Johnson embarks on a mission to save Santa Claus in Red One.

Snowpiercer (2013)
Chris Evans, who stars in Red One, played Steve Rogers from 2011 to 2019. Because of his commitment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Evans hardly put the shield down to act in other projects. Snowpiercer is one of his rare non-Marvel movies he amde during that time. It also happens to be one of his best. Directed by future Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho, Snowpiercer is set in a postapocalyptic world where a second Ice Age has made Earth uninhabitable. The remaining survivors live on a train that circumnavigates the planet.
The rich live in luxury toward the front, while the poor struggle to survive in the back. Curtis Everett (Evans), a lower-class resident, leads a rebellion against the armed guards occupying their cart. Once they escape the caboose, Curtis and his crew have their sights set on taking over the engine room and disrupting the status quo of the train. No filmmaker better depicts class warfare better than Bong, and the director delivers a memorable thriller with a characteristically poetic ending.

The Maze Runner (2014)
Unfortunately for The Maze Runner, it came at a time when The Hunger Games was still at the peak of its powers. The Maze Runner still developed a solid following, but it would have been bigger had Katniss Everdeen not picked up a bow. Regardless, The Maze Runner was an above-average young adult movie, backed by its exciting premise and starmaking performance from Dylan O’Brien (Saturday Night).
Thomas (O’Brien) wakes up on an elevator that opens in “The Glade,” a large grassy area with a large community of teenage boys living on the outskirts. The Glade sits in the middle of a giant maze, with giant walls on every side. Each day, “runners” head into the maze to map out the routes in hopes of finding an exit. The community is thrown into chaos with the arrival of Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), a girl who knows Thomas. With a target on his back, Thomas attempts to win the group over by becoming a runner and finding a way out.

The World Is Not Enough (1999)
This month marks the 25th anniversary of The World Is Not Enough, Pierce Brosnan’s third James Bond film. By no means is The World Is Not Enough Brosnan’s best Bond movie. That title belongs to GoldenEye. The World Is Not Enough plays too much into comedy and not enough into a plot that makes sense.
After the murder of a billionaire oil tycoon, Bond’s mission is to protect the businessman’s daughter, Elektra (Sophie Marceau). The man behind the murder is Renard (Robert Carlyle), a terrorist who comes into possession of a nuclear bomb that, if set off, will disrupt the world’s oil supply. Again, there are some plot holes, but the action is surprisingly good, and Brosnan remains as charming as ever.
