Joker 2 made just $7 million in its second weekend — that’s a historic 81% drop for a DC film. When one joker’s door closes, another clown’s door opens. Terrifier 3, the independent horror film featuring a killer clown named Art, opened to an astonishing $18.9 million.

Shattered Glass (2003)
Aspiring members of the media should be required to watch Shattered Glass, Billy Ray’s overlooked movie about journalist Stephen Glass (Hayden Christensen). In the late 1990s, Glass worked as an editor at The New Republic magazine. Glass was a gifted writer who seemed to write about the most eccentric topics. One story about a teenage hacker working for a software firm garnered praise from his colleagues.
The story reached the desk of Forbes reporter Adam Penenberg (Steve Zahn), who didn’t believe it and started digging. In reality, Glass may have fabricated the story. Now, Glass must prove his innocence, or risk being fired and ostracized within the journalistic community. Despite its low box office return, Shattered Glass is up there with the best movies about journalism of the 21st century. It’s a compelling drama with a valuable lesson, especially for those who want to work in this field.

Ad Astra (2019)
Come for a terrific movie set in outer space, and you’ll receive an emotional story about the unbreakable bond between a parent and child. That’s Ad Astra, James Gray’s 2019 sci-fi drama starring Brad Pitt. Major Roy McBride (Pitt) is summoned to investigate inexplicable power surges coming from deep space. Scientists believe these surges can be traced to the Lima Project, a space station orbiting Neptune run by Roy’s father, Clifford (Tommy Lee Jones). However, Clifford McBride and the crew have been missing for three decades.
If the surges are not contained, they threaten the livelihood of other planets, including Earth. With a small glimmer of hope that his father might still be alive, Roy embarks on a dangerous mission to Neptune. The space scenes are jaw-droppingly beautiful, but Pitt’s emotionally restrained performance proves he hasn’t lost a step as an actor.

Varsity Blues (1994)
Are you ready for some football? Everything is bigger in Texas, including high school football. Varsity Blues is the MTV version of Friday Night Lights — but sillier, sexier, and exaggerated. That doesn’t make Varsity Blues a bad movie; it’s funny and extremely entertaining thanks to a memorable cast of young actors.
All West Canaan cares about is high school football and its team, coached by the legendary Bud Kilmer (Jon Voight). Nothing else matters to Kilmer besides winning. When star quarterback Lance Harbor (Paul Walker) suffers a gruesome leg injury, backup quarterback Jonathon “Mox” Moxon (James Van Der Beek) takes over as the starter. For Mox, there’s more to life than football. That nontraditional approach doesn’t sit well with Kilmer, who constantly clashes with his quarterback. Mox is ready to be West Canaan’s hero, but only on his own terms.
