Siri looks into the flames, teases Jon Snow’s fate

The annual hype train for the latest season of Game of Thrones began when a bloodied image of Jon Snow was revealed last November.

The popular character was believed to be killed when he was repeatedly stabbed at the end of season five — but HBO’s won’t stop teasing, and it has turned the Internet to asking its digital assistants to find out the truth.

Scandal and Django Unchained actress Kerry Washington tweeted a screenshot of her iPhone, after she asked Siri if Snow was alive. Siri responded with, “I don’t know. I just hope someone is setting up doggie daycare for Ghost.” (Ghost, for the uninitiated, is Jon Snow’s direwolf.)

While Siri can’t appease our curious minds with actual answers, she does have a number of fun quotes from the show to respond with about the controversial matter.

Apple Offer: See which iPhone is the right fit for you

We asked Apple’s digital assistant again and she responded with “‘Dead is dead.’ Or is it ‘What’s dead may never die?’ No, wait, ‘Death is so terribly final?’ I give up.” Siri will also say, “Well, you know what they say to Death… Not today! But why would tomorrow be any better? Anyway, I’m not exactly sure.”

And finally, if you try it yourself, you might also get, “I’m not sure. Has he tried restarting? That always seems to work.”

We tested the same question with other digital assistants: Google Now, Cortana, and SoundHound’s new Hound app, but sadly they don’t know the answer either. Unfortunately, they also don’t offer interesting responses like Siri.

We’ll find out Snow’s verdict soon enough though, as Game of Thrones season six airs on Sunday, April 24.

Game of Thrones: the best Jon Snow episodes
Jon Snow beyond the wall in Game of Thrones.

Though we're only two episodes into the new series, HBO's House of the Dragon has so far successfully captured the thrill of week-to-week dark fantasy epics, political drama, and overall excitement for the characters and world of Game of Thrones. A second season was already greenlit less than a week after the series premiere but with the recent bombshell of the Kit Harington/Jon Snow-led sequel series in development, it's worth revisiting the impact of the original show as well as its potential future.

Despite a final season that went off the rails, Jon Snow cemented his status as a pop culture fantasy icon and one of the most compelling characters in Thrones' main cast. As such, he's had a great spotlight in a handful of the series' best episodes.

Where Game of Thrones’ sequel series could take Jon Snow
Jon Snow

Even with a squandered final season and three years separating the show's finale from 2022, Game of Thrones cemented its place in TV history as a cultural and fantasy phenomenon, as well as still being one of the network's most-watched shows. That makes it both surprising and expected that industry titan HBO is looking to follow it up with a Jon Snow-led sequel series, per The Hollywood Reporter's bombshell exclusive.

HBO already has the highly-anticipated prequel House of the Dragon set to premiere this August to chronicle the beginning of the end for the Targaryans' once-dominant influence over Westeros, but Kit Harington could lead Game of Thrones to even more uncharted territory. That's especially so considering series author George R. R. Martin hasn't provided any source material beyond the A Song of Ice and Fire saga (or the last two novels). Despite the wildly ambitious nature of a potential Jon Snow Game of Thrones sequel show, there are quite a few general premises HBO can explore.
