The Independence Day sequel now has an official title, a logo, and a video Q&A

Back in 1996, we celebrated our Independence Day by defeating alien invaders with some help from Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, an inspiring speech by Bill Pullman, and the noble sacrifice of Randy Quaid, but it looks like the evil extraterrestrials weren’t done with us. Next year, the aliens return in Independence Day: Resurgence.

Yes, the sequel to Roland Emmerich’s celebrated alien-invasion epic Independence Day now has an official title, and both the title and logo were revealed during an online, live-streaming Q&A that was broadcast this week from the set of the film in Albuquerque, New Mexico. You can view the brief teaser video that revealed the title and logo above, and watch the full Q&A at the end of this article.

Directed once again by Emmerich and based on a script he co-wrote along with Dean Devlin, James Vanderbilt, James A. Woods, and Nicolas Wright, Independence Day: Resurgence brings back much of the original film’s cast as well as several newcomers, as the Earth faces yet another assault from the alien invaders that almost eradicated humanity in the 1996 film. The official synopsis for the film — which was also revealed during the Q&A event — reads as follows:

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Along with returning cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner, the film also stars Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and and Sela Ward.

Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 24, 2016.
