What’s new on Hulu in September 2024 and what’s leaving soon

John Lithgow and Jeff Bridges in The Old Man season 2.

Hulu couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out the summer than by premiering Only Murders in the Building season 4, which will continue running new episodes in September. But this month is also going to be stacked with originals including The Old Man season 2 and American Sports Story. AMC’s Western series, Hell on Wheels, is also migrating to Hulu, while animated hits like The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Krapopolis are starting new seasons at the end of the month.

For movie lovers, the Die Hard films have made their annual return to Hulu, and hopefully, the first two movies will be sticking around through Christmas. Other notable additions this month include Date Night, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Sicario, Snatch, Mean Girls, Us, and Boy Kills World.

Keep reading for our roundup of everything coming to Hulu in September 2024 and what’s leaving at the end of the month. Our picks for September are in bold.

Since you’re a Hulu fan, be sure to check out the Disney Bundle, which will get you Disney+, ESPN+, and a basic Hulu subscription for just $14 a month. You’re basically getting three streaming services for the price of two — it’s tough to turn that down. And if you want an even better deal on live TV, you’ll need to make a decision between YouTube TV and Hulu With Live TV.

3 Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend (September 6-8)
Wade Watts plays with a virtual reality headset in "Ready Player One."

A new month means new movies on Hulu, and that's good news for anyone who would rather stay at home and stream a few films instead of going out to the theaters. For the first full weekend of September, Hulu doesn't have any truly big movies to offer viewers. But there are a handful that we've selected as our three Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend.

Our current picks include Steven Spielberg's most recent sci-fi flick, a rom-com that's celebrating its 25th anniversary, and perhaps the most ridiculous movie that Michael Bay has ever directed.

Mahito Maki and the Grey Heron in The Boy and the Heron.

After last week's big additions to our list of the best movies to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Max (HBO), and other services, things have balanced out with a lean update this week. Five new films hit the streamers last week, but this week only has two. Fortunately, one is pretty exciting.

This week, Max adds Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, The Boy and The Heron, while Netflix adds Jeremy Saulnier's crime thriller Rebel Ridge.
We also have guides to the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, and the best movies on Max.

The cast of Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.

We're happy to report that the momentum among streaming shows that powered the final weekend of August has continued in the first week of September. While it's hard to follow the season premieres of Only Murders in the Building and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Peacock's Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and Apple TV+'s Slow Horses season 4 are more than worthy additions to this list.

Additionally, on September 7, Max is premiering the two-part documentary Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos, which puts the spotlight back on one of the all-time-great HBO original series. Now that's an excellent way to start the month of September. You can find miniseries and all of the rest of the best new shows to stream below.
