The upcoming film that casts Seth Rogen and James Franco as a pair of bumbling television stars recruited to kill North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un has a new trailer, and the latest preview for The Interview is almost certain to rile up the notorious despot even more than the last one.
The new trailer is a red-band preview of the film, which means it’s intended for adult audiences comfortable with the “R”-rated material in the film. (So consider this a warning to anyone who might be sensitive about adult-oriented, offensive content.) And living up to its classification, the footage selected for the preview certainly doesn’t shy away from getting raunchy.
Directed by Rogen and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg, The Interview casts James Franco as celebrity interviewer Dave Skylark and Rogen as his producer, Aaron Rapoport. When the pair lands a high-profile interview with Kim Jong-Un, they’re recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency to assassinate the dictator. As one might expect, the bumbling duo proves to be the least-qualified people in the world to do such a thing, and hilarity — and raunchy humor — inevitably ensues.
Back in June 2014, an official statement from the North Korean government called the film a “wanton act of terror” and threatened “merciless” retaliation if the film is released.
The Interview is the second film to be co-directed by Rogen and Goldberg, who previously teamed up for end-of-the-world comedy This Is The End. The film co-stars Lizzy Caplan as a CIA agent and features cameos from various actors and celebrities. Rogen has described the film as “Three Days of the Condor with idiots.”
The Interview hits theaters December 25.
