Orange is the New Black season 4 teaser takes jab at Oscars, reveals little

The highly-anticipated fourth season of Orange is the New Black is set to premiere June 17, and Netflix has released its first teaser revealing the show takes perhaps a lighter tone this season than last.

Spoiler alert: season two focused on super-villainous prison mate Vee (Yvonne Parker), Nicky’s (Natasha Lyonne) battles with the temptations of heroine, and Figueroa’s (Alysia Reiner) embezzlement, among other heavy topics. Ditto for season three, where we dealt with inmate overdoses and suicide attempts, theft, and Alex (Laura Prepon) in a compromising, and potentially dangerous, situation.

But there was some hope for interesting twists to come, as a new batch of prisoners were set to arrive at the minimum security prison as we left the gals.

In this short teaser, we see that “Taystee” (Danielle Brooks) is just as charming and funny as ever, Morello (Yael Stone) just as deluded, with even Suzanne, a.k.a. “Crazy Eyes” (played by Uzo Aduba) recognizing her level of oddity. Interestingly, there’s no evidence of the new batch of inmates to arrive. But we also catch quick glimpses of some serious issues that remind us the girls are really in prison, including Daya (Dascha Polanco) hiding in a darkened corner, an unknown inmate potentially being placed in the SHU (Security Housing Unit), and Gloria (Selenis Leyva) in some serious trouble with security.

If you want to binge the first three seasons again, the teaser reminds viewers that all three are still streaming on the site. Don’t expect the story to wrap up this season, though. While Piper (Taylor Schilling) was only originally sentenced to just one year in prison, the story will be drawn out as Netflix confirmed last month that it would renew the popular show for at least another three seasons beyond this, its fourth. How much trouble will Piper have to get into in order to remain locked up for that long? Stay tuned.
