With exactly one year to go until Deadpool is scheduled to hit theaters, Ryan Reynolds commemorated the occasion with a sneak peek at some key parts of the costume he’ll be wearing when he brings Marvel’s mouthy mercenary to the big screen for a solo adventure.

In a photo that Reynolds posted to Twitter, the actor can be seen standing alongside a set of gloves and — more importantly — a very familiar mask perched on a display stand in the foreground.

“Sepia tone disguises the fact the mask is ballerina pink. It’s early. 365 sleeps early.” wrote Reynolds.

Along with stoking the fires on the long-awaited project, the photo also serves as a nice reminder to fans that the Deadpool movie is indeed happening — something that many people thought would never happen, given how long it’s been since Reynolds made his debut as the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It’s still unknown whether that film will connect with the upcoming solo adventure in any way, though it wouldn’t be surprising if Deadpool takes a few jabs at the poor treatment he received in the earlier film.

Casting for the film thus far has been limited to Reynolds, T.J. Miller, and Ed Skrein, although recent reports suggest the studio is looking for a female lead to add to the cast.

Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool is based on a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and is scheduled to hit theaters February 12, 2016.

Is X-Men Origins: Wolverine really that bad?
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In 2009, 20th Century Fox attempted to expand the X-Men movies with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first film in a trilogy to feature Hugh Jackman as the title character. While the film eventually got its sequels, it's also regarded as one of the worst X-Men movies. This one may have been snake-bitten from the start. Shortly before it was released, the movie was leaked online. While X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened to $85 million domestically, its repeat business was strained at best and it limped to a $373.1 million worldwide total.

Since the origins of Deadpool & Wolverine are closely linked to this film, it's time to ask if X-Men Origins: Wolverine is really as bad as it appeared to be? There have certainly been worse superhero movies than this one -- The Flash, Morbius, and Madame Web all come to mind -- but is that enough to redeem X-Men Origins: Wolverine and salvage its reputation? First, let's look at the things that work in this movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine final trailer teases emotional showdown, two major cameos
Deadpool and Wolverine stare back in the same direction in "Deadpool & Wolverine."

The final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine features two major cameos, with one of the characters having a significant emotional connection to Hugh Jackman's Logan.

The biggest reveal is the appearance of Dafne Keen's Laura/X-23, Wolverine's mutant daughter from Logan. At the end of Logan, Laura and the other Transigen children continued their journey to Canada shortly after Logan sacrificed himself and died. Although Jackman plays a variant of Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine, Laura clearly recognizes Wolverine in their interaction. "You were always the wrong guy... 'til you weren't," Laura tells Wolverine.
