Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming movie Tomorrowland is quietly making a case for itself as a film to look out for this year, and the latest trailer for the science-fiction adventure puts the spotlight on unlikely George Clooney.
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Brad Bird (The Incredibles), Tomorrowland casts Clooney as a former boy-genius and Britt Robertson as a clever, optimistic teenager whose life is forever changed when she comes into possession of a mysterious pin that transports her to a strange city located somewhere between space and time and filled with amazing technology.
The new trailer offers a glimpse at what happens when the two main characters cross paths, and the wild adventure filled with robots, rocket ships, and a menagerie of sci-fi elements that spins out of their meeting.
Along with releasing the new trailer, Walt Disney Pictures launched the official website for the film. The interactive site lets visitors explore the enigmatic city and offers quite a bit more information about the premise for the film, which is based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, taking a page from the billion-dollar Pirates of the Caribbean handbook.
The trailer was also accompanied by an announcement that a special presentation of new footage from Tomorrowland will be screened in IMAX theaters around the world beginning May 1, and an extended preview of the film will screen before IMAX presentations of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Heck, if viewers wait long enough, they may not have to go to the film at all.
Along with Clooney and Robertson, the film stars Hugh Laurie as scientist David Nix, as well as Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Thomas Robinson. The film is based on a screenplay penned by Bird and Lost writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof.
Tomorrowland hits theaters May 22.
