Netflix

The holiday season is in full swing on Netflix. The streamer will release several holiday rom-coms from now until Christmas. One movie on the upcoming slate is Our Little Secret, a new movie starring Lindsay Lohan as a woman forced to spend the holidays under the same roof with her ex-partner.

While the holidays provide an abundance of rom-coms, other romantic options don’t involve Santa Claus or a Christmas tree. One of our top suggestions this month is Lonely Planet, a new adventure rom-com starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. Read on to learn more about Lonely Planet and two more rom-coms you should watch in November.

Lonely Planet (2024)

If you can’t make it to a beautiful destination, the next best option is to experience one in a movie. In one of Netflix’s newest rom-coms, Lonely Planet, the story takes place at a resort in Morocco. Author Katherine Loewe (Laura Dern) is in a bit of a slump after separating from her former partner and needs to finish her next novel.

Katherine is not the only writer at this resort. The hotel is also home to a retreat for up-and-coming writers, including Lily Kemp (Diana Silvers). Intimated by the prospect of being surrounded by other writers, Lily invites her finance manager boyfriend Owen Brophy (Liam Hemsworth) to accompany her on the retreat. While Lily stresses about her writing, Owen finds solace with Katherine as they bond over their personal lives. Despite the age difference, Katherine and Owen clearly have feelings for one another. Is a passionate affair worth the risk? All bets are off in Morocco.

Love Hard (2021)

Netflix

Speaking of Netflix’s cheesy Christmas movies, Love Hard is an unexpectedly charming rom-com starring Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang. Dating columnist Natalie Bauer (Dobrev) decides to expand her location search on a dating app and meet someone new. Enter Josh (Yang), a kind man who lives in Lake Placid, New York.

On a whim, Natalie travels to Josh’s home for the holidays. Shortly upon arrival, Natalie discovers Josh catfished her with pictures of another one of the town’s residents, Tag Abbott (Darren Barnet). Josh agrees to help Natalie court Tag to make up for the catfishing debacle. Yet by spending time with Josh, Natalie realizes the man she may love is right in front of her, even if he looks different than the pictures.

Haul Out the Holly (2022)

Hallmark Channel

Netflix has wasted no time bolstering its selection of holiday rom-coms. While Netflix does make originals, the streamer has licensed Christmas romances from the most prolific network, the Hallmark Channel. One of Hallmark’s most reliable stars is Lacey Chabert, who stars in Haul Out the Holly. After breaking up with her boyfriend, Emily Melrose (Chabert) decides to spend the holiday at her parents’ house. What was supposed to be a relaxing staycation turns into a nightmare when Emily’s parents leave her to go house hunting in Florida.

To make matters worse, Emily must deal with the Homeowners Association (HOA) of Evergreen Lane as they implement specific Christmas rules for each house. The HOA’s new president is Jared Farnsworth (Wes Brown), Emily’s childhood crush. At first, Jared acts like a jerk when he orders Emily to follow the rules. However, he slowly warms up to Emily, sparking a potential relationship. Hallmark movies always have happy endings, so don’t be surprised if things go Emily’s way in the end.

3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (November 15-17)
A man walks in armor in Dracula Untold.

This weekend, the big movie being released in theaters is Red One, an action-packed holiday movie starring The Rock. Yeah, no thanks. I don't know who asked for that or why they want to see Santa throwing down with Black Adam, but chances are, you're not one of those people.

If that's true, I've compiled a list of three underrated movies on Netflix that are worth your time. One is a cheesy action movie that tells the origin story of one of literature's greatest character, another is biopic about a great politician, and the last one is a thriller that has plenty of sax ... and sex. Trust me, you'll understand after you've watched it.

The 50 best shows on Netflix in November 2024
The cast of Cobra Kai.

For a streamer that made its name on binge-watching, Netflix has really embraced the split-season model this year. That's why we have fresh episodes of Arcane this weekend, as well as new episodes of Cobra Kai. That Karate Kid sequel series has proven to be so popular that it's bound to hit No. 1 on the list of the most popular shows on Netflix now that Cobra Kai season 6, part 2 has arrived.

Netflix has also just added A.P. Bio, a sitcom that previously ran on NBC and Peacock. This is a show that never achieved the popularity it needed to last longer than four seasons. But if any streamer can revive interest in this series, it's Netflix.
