Audi Urban Concept car

While the latest Audi concept car, dubbed the Urban Concept, won’t be barreling down the Autobahn at breakneck speeds, the tiny two-seat car made of carbon fiber and featuring an exposed suspension certainly looks the part.

But it isn’t necessarily all dressed up and nowhere to go with Audi’s latest concept creation. Under the tiny hood the Urban Concept offers just 20 horsepower, it weighs only 480kg (just over 1,000 pounds) and features a racy pushrod suspension, giving it quite the grab around corners.

Powering the Urban Concept is 7.1kWh battery pack that is inductively charged ( meaning there is no need to plug it in at the end of the day). And while a 45 mile radius will limit your forays outside of town, it is called the Urban Concept, after all, there is potential for extended range models in the future.

Audi has developed two versions of the Urban Concept, a Sportback (with roof) and a Spyder (without) but hasn’t stated when or if either will see production.

Volkswagen ID.GTI concept is another icon reimagined as an EV

Volkswagen reinvented one of its most iconic models with the ID.Buzz, a modern, all-electric homage to the classic Microbus. But that's not the only fan favorite vehicle currently in the automaker's catalog.

Debuting at the 2023 Munich Auto Show, the Volkswagen ID.GTI concept aims to do for the Golf GTI hot hatchback — VW's signature performance car — what the ID.Buzz did for the Microbus. VW claims a production version has already been given the green light, although it won't say when it will appear.

Lanzador concept previews Lamborghini’s first EV

Lamborghini provided the first glimpse at its electric future with the Lanzador, an all-electric concept car that previews the Italian automaker's first EV, debuting in 2028. But an electric powertrain isn't the only thing that sets the Lanzador apart from the Lamborghinis of today.

Lamborghini's current lineup includes two-seat mid-engined supercars and the Urus SUV. The Lanzador represents a third body style: the "2+2" grand touring car, with occasional-use rear seats. Lamborghini has built cars like this before, including the Espada, Urraco, and Jarama, but the Lanzador adds a more SUV-like raised ride height, something Lamborghini has already dabbled with in the Huracán Sterrato. That should make tackling steep driveways less perilous than in current Lamborghini supercars, while folding rear seats provide additional cargo space.

Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven concept looks to the past for inspiration

Mercedes-Benz this week unveiled a new electric concept car that looks back as well as forward. It's called the Vision One-Eleven, and it's a reminder that car designers have a long history of predicting the future.

The Vision One-Eleven is inspired by the C111 series of experimental vehicles that first appeared in 1969. With their aerodynamic styling, roof-hinged gullwing doors, and distinctive orange paint, the C111 cars became fixtures of auto show stands and car-magazine features throughout the 1970s. They were more than show cars, though, testing then-trendy ideas like fiberglass body panels and rotary engines.
