On July 1, Casio‘s Exilim EX-S600D digital camera will go on sale in France and Germany. Unlike Casio’s previous card-slim Exilim offerings, the EX-S600D will offer the ability to capture high-quality video in DivX format: video captured with the camera can be played on a wide range of DivX-compatible consumer electronics devices (now counting over 1,500, according to the DivX Inc.) as well as computers with DivX software installed.
“We are very enthusiastic about this new digital camera featuring DivX’s exceptional technology,” said Susumu Takashima, a director at Casio and head of the Digital Camera Unit. “Casio digital cameras have won consistent praise from users for their slim size, large screens, and long battery life. With the release of this new model, which makes it easy to record DivX-format movies, we look forward to welcoming a whole new group of customers to the pleasure of using Casio digital cameras.”
Othewise, the specs for Casio’s slim Exlim EX-S600D seem unchanged from the existing Exilim S600: 6 megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, image stabilization, 2.2-inch color LCD display, USB 2.0 connectivity, and 8 MB of built-in memory with support for SD and MMC expansion. No word yet on pricing for the EX-S600D.
