Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Sports 18x Optical Zoom

Panasonic is announcing new additions to its digital camera lineup today, including the new DMZ-FZ28, slated to be available in silver or black this August. The FZ28s will sport a27mm wide angle Leica lens with an impressive 18× optical zoom, along with a 10.1 megapixel resolution. And to make sure those shots are always sharp and clear, the camera features opticalimage stabilization, and face detection—along with intelligent exposure analysis, ISO, and scene selection.

“The FZ28 packs a wide-angle lens and a high-powered zoom, so shooting outdoor events or vacation adventures is easy with this powerful camera,” said Panasonic Consumer Electronics’ national marketing manager David Briganti, in a statement.

The FZ28 also features a new autofocus tracking function that enables users to lock the camera’s focus on a moving object; the camera will then automatically track the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without requiring the user to ride the shutter button. The AF Tracking technology also enables the camera to track up to 15 faces with its face detection feature.

The FZ28 can also capture high-definition video (up to 1,280 by 720 pixels at 30 fps), offers a 13 fps still image burst mode, and can shoot all the way down to ISO 6400. The camera offers a 2.7-inch LCD display, stores data to SD cards, and includes wide selection of scene modes along with digital red-eye correction.

Expect to see the DMX-FZ28s in August for a suggested retail price of $399.99.
