Samsung has announced four new additions to in its SL-series of point-and-shoot digital cameras, offering high resolution and consumer-friendly prices…plus, at the high end, a camera that can record 720p video and output it via HDMI.
The SL820 sports a three-inch LCD display, 5× optical zoom, and a 28mm wide-angle lens, and can capture high-definition 720p MPEG4 video at 30 frames per second. The SL620 kicks up to a 35mm lens, but records VGA-resolution video at 30fps. Both the 820 and 620 feature both digital and optical image stabilization, face detection (with smile and blink detection), and a new Smart Album feature that enables users to more easily find images stores on their memory cards—users can search by date, overall color tone, portraits, and specific file types (e.g., photo, video, or voice). The SL820 should be available in May for a suggested price of $279.99; the SL620 will land in March for a suggested price of $199.99.
The SL202 and SL30 are designed to appeal to first-time digital camera buyers: they feature a 10 megapixel resolution, a 3× optical zoom, and digital image stabilization. The SL202 uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a 2.7-inch display and can record Motion JPEG video at VGA resolution at 30 frames per second, and features face detection and Samsung’s Smart Album feature. The SL30 uses a 2.5-inch display, runs off convenient AA batteries, and also sports digital image stabilization and face detection.
