The new version of Epic Games' Unreal Tournament has stopped development, the company tells Variety. The game will still be available to download for free but will not receive new updates. It was in a pre-alpha stage, with new maps and features being added prior to Fortnite: Battle Royale launching.

Epic Games is launching its own competitor to Steam, initially for PC and Mac. The platform will offer an 88 percent revenue share to developers, and players can directly support their favorite video creators through affiliate sales. The store is planned for an Android launch in 2019, as well.

Epic Games has offered Fortnite players a taste of what's to come in Season 7, and it appears the game is about to get a whole lot colder. Following a hearing and statement from Senator Maggie Hassan, the FTC's commissioners said that they plan to investigate video game loot boxes in order to determine if they need more oversight. Loot boxes have already been targeted in countries like Belgium, which views them as gambling.

Sony filed a patent for a new game cartridge, but it appears that the device could actually be the same as a toy platform the company first revealed back in 2017, rather than a video game. The Vita was the last system Sony released that used game cartridges, and didn't perform well commercially.
Happy holidays! ‘Fortnite’ now lets you buy your friends gifts
Epic Games has added item gifting to Fortnite for a limited time. The feature allows you to buy an item as a gift and send it to anyone on your friends list, but it isn't available on iOS. It's planned for a one-week trial period alongside update 6.31, which also added a new limited-time mode.
